What is the latest situation in respect of the colourisation of The Mind of Evil. I presume episodes 2 to 6 had chroma dot information on it to enable restoration to colour but what has been done about episode 1

Well, from what I heard, even episodes 2 to 6 are not going so well. Remember, chroma dots were not designed to be there as back-up. They were a(n unwanted) side effect of the telerecording. It is entirely possible that not enough information was captured by the film camera to be useful for restoration. Then again, I'd be very happy to be proved wrong. ;D

The end of part 6 of TMoE exists as an off-air NTSC Betamax recording made by a friend of Ian Levine.
I wonder how good a colour picture the Restoration Team can extract from it these days.

Parts 2 to 6 are basically now in colour they just need the usual restoration anyother dvd would need. Although i know that the end of the mind of evil where they are on the airfield with the missile bleads very badly on the film. I have done a small colourisation on ep 6.Not the best thow: www.youtube.com/watch?v=yF8aakdTSfU

Parts 2 to 6 are basically now in colour they just need the usual restoration anyother dvd would need. It really isn't anywhere near that simple, Simon. The raw colour recovery has been done, but an awful lot of work, far over and above the usual restoration process needs to be done to it.

As I said, the raw colour recovery has been done on Episodes 2-6 and that's where the clips on the Day DVD came from. But there is still a lot of work that needs to be done on it to bring it up to a usable standard.

I never cease to be amazed at what can be done nowadays. The episodes of Sea Devils that went through Reverse Standards Conversion weren't quite 100%. However, the episodes of Curse of Peladon that went the same route were brilliant. The impossible we can achieve given time, miracles take a little longer.

I can usually make sense of what the Restoration Team are up to, but I'll readily confess the chroma dot business is mathematically somewhat above my head! It's oft been mentioned that the results are variable - have any properties of particular telerecordings been identified as the root of the trouble on the more "difficult" ones?
And incidentally, a Happy New Year to you all!

It really isn't anywhere near that simple, Simon. ;D I see what you did there. EDIT: Apologies if anyone interprets any unintended offence...
