I'd like to thank a really great bunch of guys who work very hard to get us the best possible Dr Who. Let's remember just a few things: (1) Cleaning up the picture (2) Recreating missing frames (3) Cleaning up the sound track (4) Reverse Standards Conversion (5) Recolourisation (Colour Silurian Overlay) (6) Colour Recovery (7) VidFIRE (8) Animation of missing episodes I may have missed something but that's still a very impressive list And then there are those who intrepidly trot the globe looking for missing episodes - only to find them in the UK ! Merry Christmas and THANK YOU guys !

If I can find one as I go through my remaining videos, I'll upload a piece of my original Who videos. Most of us, of a certain age, had to put up with an Nth degree generation, with dropout, muffled audio, damage and all in glorious wobblevision. Almost unwatchable, but it's all we had. So I'll add my thanks as to what we have now (but I think I'm in a minority of possibly me who doesn't like vidfire) and keep up the great work.
Restoration Team and hunters. Splended chaps all of them.
Alan

Happy Christmas to all the guys and a massive thank you for your continued work in sourcing and restoring the best possible film and audio material. Your dedication and commitment consistently makes the classic Doctor Who range an absolute joy to watch. Just don't have too much beer, as we need you to be up and clear headed and back to work on those pesky Pertwee colourisations by Tuesday!

Thanks chaps, much appreciated! Steve: could you update us on when the updates on the RT website will proceed, and whether or not they'll be regular with each dvd release, as in former times? Cheers.

To Steve, and all at the Restoration Team. My thanks, from the bottom of my heart for all the hard work and determination in bringing this brilliant material back to the masses again. As you can see here all are behind that statement there. Betting are quite excited in regards to cleaning up the two newly discovered episodes! I have not heard much overall in regards to the picture quality in general here. Were there any bad scratches present, damaged cells, emulsion damage, sprocket damage, etc issues commonly found in vintage film prints? As the bit from Air Lock looked immaculate, however the bit from Underwater Menace looked damaged in one section, and dirty as saw a hair and quite a good amount of dirt present in the displayed material. Would have thought at least a nice wetgate transfer ( know is prohibitively expensive, but would think might be worth the work, being previously lost Doctor Who, right?)or ultrasonic cleaning could have been arranged here in regards? Makes sense are probably awaitng full restoration for thier eventual DVD releases in 2012, cannot wait as know many are also "chomping at the bit" so to speak.
Cheers again Chaps!! Sterling Work As Always!!
Regards, Lance.

Mark: I really need to pull the RT site to bits and rebuild it from scratch.
Lance: Both prints were ultrasonically cleaned before transfer. Nobody really uses wetgate telecine these days, the diffuse illumination technology employed in modern machines has done away with that requirement. Of the two, the UM episode was in the poorest condition, with torn sprockets and emulsion damage throughout. Aside from the missing bits due to censor cuts, there's about two seconds missing from the middle of one scene due to a tear and repair that took place sometime in the past. There's probably very little we can do about that, I'm afraid. We've had the censor cuts rescanned at 2K in Australia so that we should be able to drop them back in fairly seamlessly once Peter has worked his magic on them.

Does anybody else think that a documentry on the Restoration Team would be a good extra on an upcoming DVD? If it isn't already in the pipeworks that is, Great work Guys!!

Does anybody else think that a documentry on the Restoration Team would be a good extra on an upcoming DVD? If it isn't already in the pipeworks that is, Great work Guys!! I think that most of it has already been done. There have already been "extras" on: Re-colourisation - Colour Silurian Overlay Colour Recovery Reverse Standards Conversion Putting censor clips back Improving the area of the visible image Mending damage and probably some others.
