Thanks for the post Matt. This is the EIAJ cartridge VT system, have only heard-seen the National model as pictured here. The first I saw was in Australia, this is only the second unit I have yet seen. Is interesting that the take-up reels in these were inside the actual unit, just the feed reel in the cartridge that was rewound back inside the actual cartridge. Can see how the VCR evolved from early beginnings like this and the earlier N1500 and N1700, Grundig SVC, V2000,U-Matic, ACR-25 to name but a few of the early VC systems. The labeling on the box of the tape pictured reads " CCTV", makes me think this was used as a security surveillance recorder, possibly for an official institution or school would be my best guess here. Rather hard to say all in all with any amount of certainty.
Cheers, Lance.

Typical if we discover the label means Classic Comedy Television.

More seriously,do manufacturers of VCR have showrooms/museums of their old machines, and if they do,do they have tapes with old recordings to play on them?

I'd be very careful trying to use old consumer electronics if they haven't been used for a while as the electrolytic capacitors in the power supply could cause problems.
