Not actually the first show, but the original 1964 'timpani drums' titles do exist from being recorded at the end of a telerecording of the 08/10/64 'General Election' Question Time. This has been covered before.
After the titles, there is a very brief shot of the studio with audience, then the recorder is switched off. The earliest surviving clip of Top of the Pops is, as most know, 'Bits and Pieces' by the Dave Clark Five, from 19/02/64 and seems likely to be an insert (no audience)

Ah right, I thought nothing existed till later on in the year anyway.
But, Ive got a recording of "25 Years of Top of the Pops" from Jan 1st '89, and Jim'll introduces clips of himself from the firsdt episode showing the chart, and a performance by The Rolling Stones.
So were these clips from other episodes?

They were, yes. All from fairly early in the run but nothing from the actual first edition.

The Jimmy Saville and 1st episode chart from the 25th anniversary episode is a mock. Whereas the chart itself is correct, the clip is most definitely not from show 1 (made obvious by Jimmy saying 'it's a show you've never heard of before'.... and the fact he is evidently quite old in the clip)
It's common knowledge that episode 1 was never recorded in the first place (along with a few others) so never actually existed

Yep, that's the TOTP clip... the David Jacobs bit at the end is from Juke Box Jury, the reason for that is because the above posted clip was sourced from an episode of 'Sounds of the 60s', which used the Juke Box Jury clips to link the TOTP footage.
