I don't usually have much to say about radio programmes, but it occurred to me this evening that I had a recording on cassette of a short tribute to Elvis, broadcast on the IBA local radio stations the day after his death (August 17th 1977). In my case, the local station was Radio Orwell in Ipswich. It consists of a commentary by someone unknown (sounding similar to David Frost) and includes interviews with the likes of Cliff Richard, The Fantastics, Marty Wilde and Vernon Presley. Does anyone know if this is a 'lost' show? I had a quick search but wouldn't know where to look really for IBA radio shows. I have not as yet digitised it, but it is of reasonably listenable quality.

No comment on this, so I'm guessing that either no-one knows if this exists, or (more likely) no-one cares!

Tribue programming to culturally significant figures such as Elvis Presley are always of interest. I have the Radio Luxembourg braadcast as an mp3 file and it's an interesting social document. Such was the power of the media in those days that listeners who were experiencing symptoms of grief were advised to contact the Samaritans.
