Wow with people like that collecting it certainly gives hope to some missing things turning up!

Extermely interesting video there, thanks for sharing. I do hope that none of the members here are going to start pestering the guy. One person contacting him ought to be enough

This may well be the guy who was banned from the Forum for slagging people off. I will make some checks tomorrow. He's the one, I think who refuses to hand over missing footage and gloats about it. Nonetheless, I WILL double-check it's the same guy. In the meantime, caution, please.

Scene is a BBC schools programme, which featured both drama and factual material over the years. A number of editions survive although not all.

Paul Rayner is the guy. Also posted under other names. He wrote this:-
""do not give your films or videos to any tv company, the films and videos are your property and do not belong to the bbc or itv, they will own the copyright only 50 years from the first broadcast as copyright only lasts 50 years in tv broadcast, so now the tv companies know theis and so have a missing episode site asking the public to hand over FREE OF CHRAGE your video or film that might be lost, my advice is KEEP IT because once back in the tv archive you will never see it again, as a test email the bbc or itv and ask them to sell you or give you free of charge a tv program like z cars and see what they say, they will say NO we dont do things like that, but they are quick to take your stuff, i say dont let them have it because they wanted to destroy the film or video you have when they binned or wiped the tapes, dont just hand your films back, i will hang on to them and maybe release a dvd yourself after the 50 year copyright period is over if not then i will buy your films and videos and pay more than them. whay not let me know what toy have, forget the tv companuies and thast gazumper of ebay videos and films""
He was banned from the Forum for several rants. Laurence is aware.

Sorry for the false lead, looked promising at the time though.

the problem with a guy like this is that he sits on stuff till his dies then the relatives come round, clear the house and take all of uncles 'crappy old videos' down the tip. There ends any chance of anybody seeing them

Wow. That quote from the chap is really quite misleading isnt it? It bears very little resemblance to the reality of the situation at the moment. Its fair to say that not every single item in the BBC archive is available to the public at this precise moment in time but at least if something is stored in the archive it may become available to the public at some point (for example the possibilities being opened up for streaming niche programs via the internet) and it is safe, unlike in someone's garden shed :/
