Hi Guys,
Due to moving home I'm having to sell my video and radio collection.
This comprises of 350+ VHS tapes, 150+ audio cassettes and approx 50 mini-discs, all collected over a 25 year period. The majority of the material is Cult TV, sci-fi, comedy, Kids, Drama, TV interviews etc etc. I doubt if the collection includes any "missing" material, but there are plenty of rarities and archive gems amongst the mix.
I'm looking for a quick sale, so I'm hoping to sell the collection (in bulk) to a good home where the new owner will get as much pleasure out of it as I have. If you fancy several hundred cheap tapes that could be reused as "blanks" or if you just fancy the lucky dip value of maybe finding something unusual, please get in touch via davetonbridge@aol.com
Many thanks,

Dave, that sounds like something very special that you've got there. As you say, just to be able to sit down for several months and have a look at what gems you have would be magical.
I sadly do not have any spare cash at the moment, so I cannot oblige this sale, but I wish I could. You don't just fancy sending me four or five random tapes for say a fiver and the cost of the postage. I won't be offended when you say no, honest!

Hi Paul,
Well, I am hoping to avoid breaking up the collection if possible, but, who knows, if several people show interest in parts of the collection, I may decide to spilt things up.
To be honest, I'd be happy to let the whole lot go for around £250. The only stipulation I would make is that the buyer would need to arange collection or be prepared to pay towards the transport.
Cheers,
Dave

Er Dave --
If these are not pre-recorded tapes, then it's not legal to sell them. I suppose you might get away with selling them as "350 used VHS tapes that might have stuff on them" - but even that is probably pushing the envelope a bit.

Sorry. I thought I made it quite clear that I'm selling them as reusuable, "blank" tapes. I think the price reflects that. This is a chance for someone who uses a lot of cassettes to stock up for pennies per tape.
The tapes have all been used before, so anyone buying them with several thousand hours to kill and the patience of a saint, might find some interesting stuff already on there. My intention is to sell them as blanks, hence no list of what the tapes might have once contained.
No copyright infringement is intended.
Thanks.

Yes, but you said "The majority of the material is Cult TV, sci-fi, comedy, Kids, Drama, TV interviews etc " and "I'm hoping to sell the collection (in bulk) to a good home where the new owner will get as much pleasure out of it as I have." -- this is an implicit advertisement that the tapes have something on them that might be of interest to someone. To me, this sounds like you are using the contents as a way to sell the tapes. Are you really suggesting that you hope somoene gets pleasure out of a big batch of blank tapes?

If it is illegal to sell this kind of stuff then there are thousands of people breaking the law on E-bay then.......

Dave. warning ! sneaky bored, pendants about, who may and try and report you to someone for what? I do not know . They usually end up stabbing themselves in the foot and looking ridiculous themselves, as no one is that interested in their petty claims. I would like to see some of them go and collect the 20 thousand odd iffy copies of Faulty Towers floating around the Ukraine. I am sure John Cleese has sleepness nights worrying about it?
Good luck to you Dave I hope you get as much cash as possible for this amazing collection. Copyright is such a mess in this country, that it has meant that many programmes have been lost, its only through people like you (and in the old days film collectors) that have ensured many things have survived.
You are not selling for reward anyway just tape and wear and tear on you video recorder.

Does this "Legality Patrol" bloke actually belong to an anti-infringement company or is he just a do-gooder? Perhaps he owns the copyright to the contents:) If the answer to the above questions/suggestions is 'no', perhaps he should butt-out and go get a life. Peter
