I hope more Troughton's turn up - 1 full serial to represent two series worth of episodes just isn't enough!

I hope more Troughton's turn up - 1 full serial to represent two series worth of episodes just isn't enough! With the recovery rate so low, God knows if anything else of value will ever turn up. I think we will see good animations from the fans before another lost film print is returned.

Well, I live in hope - From what I've gathered, a fair amount of material keeps cropping up from time-to-time, despite the odds; Take that domestic off-air recording of Pink Floyd on TOTP! So, by the law of averages and a little luck, something Who-related should hopefully turn up again soon...

So, by the law of averages and a little luck, something Who-related should hopefully turn up again soon... The law of averages apparently hasn't been in our favor since the return of The Tomb of the Cybermen. Since that time, no Troughton episodes and only two Hartnell episodes have been found. Other things do turn up. When it comes to Doctor Who, we only get hoaxes.

I know, I know the finds have dwindled since '04, but as an optimist, I remain hopeful

Something that MAY be related is this question?
"What is the average age of a film collector?"
I imagine some of these people must be getting up there in age. Not to wish anyone to die or anything terrible like that, but it is still possible that there are people hoarding prints, and if they pass away their next of kin may return them to the BBC.

Or their next of kin may toss such old films out. However, I don't think anyone is knowingly hoarding prints. When my wife left a job at an advertising agency, there were a few films in film cans of TV commercials that were being tossed out. She got them out of the trash because the film cans looked interesting. We have them in our basement, but because we have no projector, we have no idea exactly what is on them. That's the kind of situation that happened with Francis Watson and Day of Armageddon, as you can read about here ... lostdrwho.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=interviews&action=display&thread=61

All ages really from 8 to 80 it just needs the money and the will I have been a collector since the age of 6, it's really some of the dealers who are getting on a bit but not all by any means

Then again it could just as easily be one from "The Enemy of the World" (and probably Episode 3) captured in error when someone thought they were taping the other side... Yes, I said it. Of course, why didn't I think of that

I usually abide by the 'never say never' mentality, but the two episodes we will NEVER see are the original 'Planet of the Giants' episodes three and four.

Well, the original two episodes were transferred to both 16mm and 35mm before the final version of Episode 3 was cut together, so it is possible for the material trimmed from the two episodes to still exist (as with other film trims that have been located), but I agree, it is phenomenally unlikely. ;D
