On a side note is anyone enjoying the new series, possibly the worst yet and thats saying something I think its a terribly spectacular waste of time. Worst series with the worst Doctor. Matt Smith is so unlike how the media portray him in reality that its scary.

On a side note is anyone enjoying the new series, possibly the worst yet and thats saying something Wow! To condemn a whole season when measured against the entire history of Dr Who, and when it is only half way through, is a trifle harsh, IMHO. I take it you haven't seen the complete turkey that was Sylvester McCoy's first season (although to be fair it was a short season). Personally, I am enjoying it and I like Moffat as a writer. But I love all Doctor Who, warts and all. Yes, I even watch the turkeys again and find some enjoyment in them.

Sorry, to veer off-topic, but is there any truth to the Private Eye report on the disaster that is the production of the current Who?

I am very happy about this, i know that animation has it doubters but at the moment its the closest thing to viewing the original we will have. I always thought they would animate this and the ice warriors/ the tenth planet because they they are only missing 1-2 episodes each and they probably held off on a dvd release due to cost and the faint hope the episodes would turn up. This is good news. I have family and friends that are Doctor Who fans. Several copies of this DVD in 2012 will make the perfect Christmas gifts.

Matt Smith is so unlike how the media portray him in reality that its scary. Off topic I know, but Tennant is by far the worst portrayal of the doctor by a mile! Smith is a good actor who does his best with the material he is handed as a general rule. I think modern who is riddled with problems in general!

keeping it off topic. listen to youselves dissing the new doctor. we get older... we move on. the past is always better... at least that's what the daily mail will have us believe bet you told yourselves you wouldn't be like your parents as well ;D ok i'm being sarky. the point is every generation has it's heroes and it's usually the ones you/we grew up with. if you can accept age will always colour your opinion you will form more balanced views. anyway back on topic. great news. another step closer to a full Season 1 boxset!

I like Matt Smith - he's got a young/old appearance which I like. I also liked Christopher Ecclestone. Unfortunately, I've generally had difficulty getting "into" the new series. If I put a DVD on because there's nothing on TV I tend to go for a Pertwee or Hinchcliffe/Baker.

I found the stories to be peurile and often lacking proper resolution through poor writing. IMO Tennant did a lot of overacting, an awful lot. In fact his best story, Blink, hardly featured him at all which says something! I cant rid myself of the feeling that the Tennant years especially are going to be very unpalatable in a few years time, I dont think they will remain as watchable as the classic series is after as many years. However if children think its great and enjoy it then good for them

Eccleston is like the Hartnell of the 'new generation', with Tennant being Baker - The general view from people my age group (I'll give you a clue...I was never old enough to see any of the classic series) is that Tennant is the best Doctor since the revival. Its well known he is a lifelong fan of Who, so I think you might have misinterpreted his natural enthusiasm for over-acting.
Personally, now RTD has left, Smith's tenure is going in a direction that I (and many of my peers) don't like...this whole half-series has had so much overcomplication and 'drama' that its like a soap!
Maybe I'm being harsh on Smith, but I had a bad experience with him...

Too each their own. I appreciate a lot of people do like Tennant and I did give him a fair go. He doesnt really feel like the doctor to me and I felt that a lot of the arcs hadnt really been properly thought out and required deus ex machina devices to resolve them which I dont think is very in the spirit of the classic series. Smith however does seem a bit more like doctor who. Whilst I appreciate that the Smith/ Moffat combo isnt perfect I have enjoyed it an awful lot more than the Davies era which I did find a bit unpalatable. Its apples and oranges really, if you like it then good luck with it! I certainly dont begrudge a difference of opinion

Goodness me, at least they are making new who! Didn't it take a while for people to warm to Tom Baker when he started? To quote the Brigadier "Splendid chap-all of them!" The whole River Song revelation was both confusing and exciting at the same time though. Can't wait to see how it all unfolds! I think Steven Moffat has a vivid imagination and is the perfect guy to be in charge.

I do consider moffat to be a big improvement on Davies and Smith to be a very large improvement on Tennant. I wouldnt question Smith's ability to act and I do think he has understood the role and works pretty well. Something in honesty I cant say about the previous team. The most recent season left me with mixed feelings; the opening two parter was good, followed by two very weak episodes. I was particularly dissapointed with the Gaiman episode. The rebel flesh was also a reasonable watch. A good man goes to war I was luke warm about. I cant really comment first hand about Baker's initial reception as I wasnt around then. Older people I know seem to have generally warmed to Baker as the new doctor. Just to clarify, I do watch and endorse some modern television, im just pretty selective.
