There's a Blue Peter epiosde - from 1977 (probably around late November, early December). It features a segment on Star Wars with an inteview with Mark Hammil. It also has a segment on St. Bernard dogs, a segment on the paintings of Stubbs, a segment on a drive to collect keys (huh?) and a segment on a giant horse painted into a hill somewhere in the UK.
The questions I have:
1) Does anyone know the exact TX date of this show 2) What's the deal with collecting keys? 3) I assume this episode is in the archives - can anyone confrim this?

The TX: date is 15/12/1977
The episode should start with the advent crown being lit, so if it's less than 24' 50" long you're missing something.
Don't know about the keys but Lesley Judd was painting the White Horse chalk carving in Somerset. Yes, the archive master is in the archive, plus the specially shot film.
Cheers,
Paul

Looking at the date I wonder if the 'keys' thing could have been that years Blue Peter Appeal collection method

Thanks Paul -- yes, it starts with the Advent crown being lit.
Nothing missing as far as I can tell -- it starts with the Film recorder gray scale bars, and the BBC2 card with the little girl and the tic tac toe board prior to the start of the show, and no splices. 24' 50" sounds about right after converting the frame rate.
As for the keys -- Clive: yes, it was some kind of appeal -- but what the heck would they want keys for? They had collected one million of them, and were trying for 2 million. They showed a bit of art that someone had sent in - the Blue peter shield decorated with keys. They said they would remove the keys and keep the shield.

Well it's obvious isn't it, they got the kids to send in all their parents house keys, then John, Pete and Lesley sneaked round the houses, stole all the Christmas presents and fenced them off to raise the amount required for the appeal !
(But seriously, I do remember some controversy about one of the BP appeals at the time, I wonder if this was it)

I do vaguely remember one appeal involved old electrical plugs, and one child had removed the plugs from most of their parents' appliances - some criticism of the appeal then followed!
