NEWS! A different section of clips from Saturday Banana appeared on youtube:- www.youtube.com/watch?v=GvSE7_33bXIThe current archived ones are episodes 19 and 21, both from November 1978. As this clip had more several different title sequences, I thought I'd get in touch with the poster, and he has been in contact with Kal, and he is a member of the Forum and sending the clips in! Another find! I would publicly like to thank the poster for being co-operative and helpful in contacting Kal at my suggestion and sending the material to them. Thank you so much. On a related subject, I am still waiting for a copy of a partial domestic recording of Saturday Banana (NOT November '78) and an episode of Roadshow Disco to be sent to me by someone else. I'd like to confirm, this has been returned to Kal.

I was trying to remember what show featured a clean shaven Jeremy Beadle?
Did he have a video collection of his early work?

I certainly remember Jeremy Beadle appearing on The Fun Factory, mainly because he mentioned it on his LBC radio show and I wanted to know what he looked like (I'd not seen him on the telly before) and yes, he didn't have a beard then - this would've been summer 1980 after the long awaited first run of Tiswas on LWT.

I think he was bearded by the time Eureka! started.

This 15 minute clip has just been uploaded to YouTube: youtu.be/Nhq_-INxg7Y?list=UUTs1J6CUBVmSwTaQRiHiKegI haven't checked but just relying on memory I'm pretty certain this isn't part of the two complete shows currently known about. It was apparently recorded in 1978 by friends of one of the guests. ~iw

I used to work on this show. Bill Gamon was a really, really nice chap, genuinely friendly to everyone.
Titles always off telecine 5 or 6. Opening ident always off telecine 3 which was tweeked up to make the ident a very clean white on blue (although the white is actually a very pale yellow but you probably can't make that out on a run of the mill computer monitor.

A teensy bit more of Saturday Banana - some music performance, and I know not what - is on this:-

This is in the Wessex Archive in the old capital and I am down in Winchester next week so I will see if they will let me have a look at it, or how to view it at a later date. Only one Saturday Banana music clip exists - and that is on a home recording directly from the screen, so this is a find of sorts.
I am almost certain the 'Time for Blackburn' will come from the existing episode - so don't get too exited.

The Saturday Banana clip in 21 Years is not a musical item, it is a children's motorcycle display team, "The Imps", performing in the car park. It doesn't even feature Bill Oddie so as such is not really representative of the programme (perhaps Mr. Oddie refused to give permission, he is famously reticent to talk about the show). The performance of the novelty song Toast by Streetband on the show does exist, at least in domestic format but I can't off the top of my head remember whether it is on the episode held at Wessex.
The Time For Blackburn clip in that compilation is The Who performing "The Magic Bus".
It's been a while since I last visited Wessex. It used to be that anything transferred to DVD you order up and watch downstairs in the Hampshire Archives. At that time they had only one audio/video booth with CD and DVD players and a small TV set. If anyone else was already using it you just had to wait. If the material is only available in the Film archive then you need to make an appointment to view it. It may be different now but I suggest you ring before turning up.
