For those interested here are some details of this year’s Missing Believed Wiped event at the NFT on December 4th. We will feature the first two editions of Palin and Jones’ Complete and Utter History of Britain. What we have recovered from director Maurice Murphy are the first two episodes as recorded NOT as broadcast. LWT requested that these two episodes be edited together to create the first episode as broadcast. This means that some of the sketches within these two programmes have never actually seen the light of day – until now. We’ll also feature the Out of the Unknown episode that our friends at kaleidoscope screened earlier in the year, plus a recently recovered Z Cars (Brotherly Love). Also we’ll screen extracts from other returns including a documentary about the Barrow Poets and some nostalgic footage of Tingha and Tucker! We’ll give a progress report with the work being done on some other returned tapes (including Graham Chapman/Dougles Adams’ Out of the Trees and BBC classic serial Cheri) and explain exactly the current position with the Bob Monkhouse collection.
As mentioned before on this forum, although these events are held at London’s National Film Theatre there is no barrier to similar events being mounted elsewhere. If you request such a screening from your nearest art-house or rep cinema, if interested they can contact us and we’ll help them mount such an event. In the meantime, looking forward to catching up with those that can make the 4th. Cheers, Dick.
