Just to confirm something.
The tx date for this clip is 6/4/67:-
TOP OF THE POPS 06/04/67 (BBC1, Survives ??) (Reel exists) ® Pink Floyd's first single was riding up the charts, despite being banned by Radio London, and it was scheduled to be played on "TOTP on 6th April. However, the black-and-white promo film for Arnold Layne was pulled at the last minute (the single had slipped down the charts that week) and never broadcast. Introduced by Jimmy Savile, Englebert Humperdinck - Release me (Charts) Georgie Fame - Because I love you (Studio) Dave Dee, Dozy, Beaky, Mick & Tich - Touch me, touch me (TV Centre) Truth - Walk away Renee (VTR Insert) Four Tops - Bernadette (Clip) Lulu - The boat that I row (Studio) Jimi Hendrix Experience - Purple haze (Studio) Rpt (TOTP 30/03/67) Monkees - A little bit me, a little bit you (Screen Gems Promo) Manfred Mann - Ha ha said the clown (Studio) + I miss you & Privalidge Englebert Humperdinck - Release me (Studio) Rpt (TOTP 09/02/67) (Credits)>> Producer - Johnny Sewart & Stanley Dorfman Pink Floyd - Arnold Layne (Promo) b/w (exists, though never shown until TOTP2)
Confirmed by Keith Badman after extra research.

I'd not heard of this one surviving before now. I wonder what the source of Keith's research was to reach that conclusion?

The clip was originally sent out to the States. I understand Keith has viewed the clip at some point in the recent past.

After a further chat today, Keith told me that he worked out that Manfred TX date because of The Monkees being on the same show. In the clip, on top on Manfred's piano is a small, motorized drumming monkey, a satirical dig at their rivals in that week's pop chart!

Just to elaborate further, the satirical dig about The Monkees had been confirmed to Keith by a member of the Manfred Mann group.
That's how he was able to ascertain the TX date.

That seems logical.
Little confused though, does this edition survive in full, or just a few inserts?

As far as I know, just the inserts.

Ah, I misunderstood you, Ray! I thought you meant that the whole edition was thought to exist! I got excited there but the Manfred clip has been known about since the '90s. Ah well...
By the way, the Arnold Layne promo was seen before TOTP2 showed it. I can remember it being screened in the early '90s at very least.

I thought that too. The information - which I should have credited - is from Pete's Seaton's fantastic Poptastic website. There are a couple of errors, but generally it's very very very good.

Not sure when TOTP2 began but I know The White Room showed the clip in full around '94 or '95 for starters. I was already very familiar with it by then though.

Was it on Pop Quiz?

It could well have been on Pop Quiz, yes. Not sure if that was the only place though. I'd seen parts of it in more than one place by then.
