For those who don't know Qasr Ibrim is an archaeological site in Lower Nubia en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Qasr_Ibrim. In the late 1970s (maybe 1978) I understand that a documentary was made about it. It was probably the BBC but might not have been in the Chronicle series. Anybody know anything about this or have any ideas as to how to find more information ?

I've managed to find a bit more information: www.jstor.org/pss/3856563The BBC were there filming for two weeks in March 1978. Could suggest a transmission date later in 1978.

To stop you from talking to yourself, have you tried contacting and asking the people involved? It's not unlikely the university departments or the people involved had copies (if they still have them is another matter). And for starters, have you asked the BFI or the BBC? Actually, a lot of chronicle episodes are on a disreputable website, it seems. But not the one you are looking for. What do you want with it?

I was talking to people at the Egypt Exploration Society which was the organisation responsible for the excavations. They knew of the programme and would like a copy but had hit a dead end with the BBC, etc. I think I've now found enough details so that, if it survives, they should be able to get a copy through Contributor Access. There are a lot of things like that which I wouldn't object to seeing on DVD - or even repeated on a cable channel.

Perhaps the contributor access is not only for people. You could argue that it applies also to organisations. Did the BBC refuse to give a copy to the university that conducted the excavations?

You're right Contributor Access does apply to organisations, etc - I've read the rules. The Egypt Exploration Society isn't a university although lots of people from universities are involved. I think that the difficulties they've had are because they didn't have the correct programme name/transmission date. Hopefully, I've now sorted that out. Qasr Ibrim isn't that easy to get to nowadays - in 1978 it must have been a major expedition for a BBC film crew, talk about "Extreme Archaeology" !
