Now, That is interesting indeed "Markwardle1". Wondering if anyone who has heard this mentioned broadcast can comment here? As would like to think this sounds extremely promising. It may be a promo, or possibly personal 8mm footage? Would be nice indeed if was from Pop Quiz, does seem rather interesting there I must admit. Again as I have said, this series and its materials clearly require-warrant further investigation. Fingers crossed!!
Cheers, Lance.

It's a pity no one has a date for the Bowie clip appearing on Pop Quiz or I could check the PasB to see what the content reads. If it was a private clip of this kind though, it may well read as such and the original source and content not listed.

I have tracked down John Henshall already this morning, and I've sent him an e-mail. Any news I get that I can let you know of, I will.

For what it's worth, I do remember the TOTP appearance being very hamonica-heavy.

Very interesting. I listened to an interview he did recently on BBC Radio Oxford where he talks about joining the BBC in 1961. He left in 1976 to run his own photographic lighting company. Here's what he said on Johnnie Walker's show:

John Henshall has replied and I have replied to him. I have given him Kaleidoscope's details. I have also let Kal know that me and John have e-mailed. Watch this space, as I will be.

Great news Ray, lets hope something comes of it. 1972-75 pops was my favourite era & its tragic that so little survives of it, many thanks for going the extra mile to try & get these little pieces of pop history back.

I've been trying to track down the Pop Quiz guest list for the show broadcast on August 1st 1981. It was suggested I check the corresponding Radio Times. However, it appears there was a dispute going on that prevented it being published that week! Could that also have disrupted the programme schedules and stopped Pop Quiz from being transmitted in some areas? That wouldn't have been the case, the Radio Times for that week wasn't printed because of a printers' strike (hence why the previous week's Royal Wedding issue was the North West edition everywhere, as it was the only one typeset before the strike and they just ran off millions of copies of it). That's why it's the only issue of that run I don't have the RT from. It had no effect on the schedules themselves, and even if it had been the case, it wouldn't have been on anywhere, rather than just in some areas.

If it was a private clip of this kind though, it may well read as such and the original source and content not listed. I've narrowed it down to 13 possibilities, Lance, with the 9 uncatalogued shows from Series 2 being the most likely suspects. All the other shows have been eliminated as home recordings of them exist and forum members have confirmed their contents. If the PasB paperwork exists for Series 2, and you have access to it, then it shouldn't be too difficult to pinpoint the exact show... You can view full details of my Pop Quiz research so far here: missingepisodes.proboards.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=totp&thread=6294&page=1

Just to add the Jean Genie clip footage was not 8mm but full colour normal broadcast quality.

Its incredibly promising!! Well done spotting it Markwardle1, and thanks for getting in touch with him Ray. Its incredible he could/might have this, yet not realise how utterly lost and wiped it is - as well as much else you care to mention from that TOTPs period. That he regards it as one of his favourites (because he's in shot during it) bodes well, as it sounds like he's definetly viewed it once or twice since. Much to hope about on this

I can confirm that Kal are aware of John Henshall and vice versa. John may have some other stuff, but he/I don't know what for the most part, and I am confident if anything is found and is usable and is copied, it will be via Kaleidoscope, who are the best people for this sort of thing, bar none.
We did speak about one other clip (NOT TOTP or Dr Who, ok!), which is NOT from a missing show.
I would also like to publicly thank John Henshall for being accessible, friendly, speedy in replying to me and a good chap too.
I'd like to also point out that I ascertained my Bowie facts via a website and also a work colleague of mine who is a Bowie expert, so it's NOT the ubiquitous Starman clip, it's Jean Genie!
Fingers crossed here too.

Did he reconfirm with you at all that he has it, and still has it?

He has some original films - NOT at his home - that include 'the Jean Genie' from TOTP.
So, to answer you, yes!
Now, bear in mind he's had that film 38 years plus, so let's hope it's in a watchable/restorable state!
