Why don't they bring back the ROXY!!!!!!!!!! Oh that was awful. They could bring back Razzmatazz and Cheggers Plays Pop as well! Now you're talking, how about a revival of GET IT TOGETHER! I wonder what old Roy North is up to these days. Lol!!! Or we could have LIFT OFF WITH CHERYL COLE as opose to LIFT OFF WITH AYSHEA, the possibilities are endless!!!!!!

I'd bring back all of the above lol . . anything to break the monotony of endless videos which is all we have now.
Just around a decade ago pop television seemed so much more varied . . within any given week it was possible to see TOTP, SM:TV/CD:UK, Live & Kicking, Pepsi Chart Show, O-Zone, TFI Friday . .
Even MTV and VH-1 used to have orginal pop programming, with the likes of Ray Cokes and Kate & Jonno. Now on their main channels it's nothing but reality shows of course.

There used to be some great chart based shows in those days. I used to like old Casey Casems AMERICAS TOP TEN which aired in the 80s on ITV. Unfortunately the media has turned most people into reality TV zombies. Some kind of studio based chart show would be nice but ultimately wouldn't be successful imo, purely because of the internet and how easy it is to access the charts.

Hence why i think there is a gap here to be filled. I really miss TOTP. Ok, we can all get our music fix via video's on "You Tube" or satellite video music channels, but this isn't the same as seeing a new, studio based performance on a weekly basis.... The argument has always been that you can see music in various other places so a programme like Top of the Pops is worthless, but you can see live football all over the place and nobody says there shouldn't be Match of the Day to round it up. Similarly there are 24 hour news channels but nobody's suggesting dropping the Ten O'Clock News. Top of the Pops is the same idea - a round-up of everything that's going on. As you say, bearing in mind the likes of The X Factor, and the massive interest in the likes of Lady Gaga and Cheryl Cole, it's ludicrous to say no interest in pop music. That might have been an argument a decade ago when singles sales were flatlining. As for "all music is rubbish now"... sigh, if only there was some sort of chart that could work out what people wanted to hear. If you don't like the music in the charts, buy other music. When Pops ended it was something of an irrelevance, only watched by thirtysomethings who couldn't bear to stop watching it as they'd not missed an episode since they were six. But that's because it was in a succession of rubbish slots. It needs to be at the heart of primetime. What they should do is put it on Sunday evenings on BBC1 and reveal the chart exclusively - Radio 1 don't give a toss about it anymore, their chart show is full of non-stop chat, so why not let Pops do it first?

I agree with you Steve. There is a place for Top of the Pops (or a show of that sort) now for the reasons that you give. There is nowhere you can go now for an encapsulation of what is current musically in just 30 minutes. With today's fast pace and people not having time or inclination to spend long on anything in depth, I would think that makes more of a case for such a programme rather than less!
I admit I have lost touch with most modern music in the last few years since the pops were axed and could not tell you who or what was current. That isn't because I think everything modern is rubbish but that music programmes (radio and what little there is on tv) are fragmented and niche. An all purpose general music tv show is desperately needed. The music it would show may not all be to my taste but young people should not be deprived of the chance to see it in the same way we did previously. Where will future generations go to find visual performances of popular 2010 acts in the way they go to Top of the Pops now for seventies and eighties music? Apart from Later...(which is only partly modern music anyway) there is nothing.
