Can anyone please confirm the archive status of this - ie the format it is kept in, as I believe it was shot on film, plus the original transmission date? Many thanks.

It exists as the original film material. The BBC also have a D3 transfer of it made for the repeat showing in "At Home With Vic and Bob" in 1993. Worldwide doubtless have their own masters for VHS & DVD (not sure off the top of my head if there's been a DVD).

Yes, there has been a DVd release of this - albeit a poor one. Like many of BBC Videos early VHS masters - this was later licensed off to Revelation Films who first made the VHS and then a DVD. It was a straight transfer though with no clean-up work or special features. It was also quite pricey at £19.99 as it really wasn't much better picture and sound wise than the VHS release.
It has however since been deleted along with all of Revelations other BBC licensed product. Seeing as "Abigail's Party", "Edge of Darkness" and "Boys From The Blackstuff" were also previously released by Revelation and have since received proper BBC releases, we can but hope for a similar release for this one.
