Does anyone remember this drama serial about the pioneering gun & ballistics expert Robert Churchill? I think the programme was subtitled ' The Other Mr. Churchill'. It was shown around June 1964 according to details from the web. I remember some of the stories which were set inthe late 1920s & early 1930s & were investigations into strange causes of death, some deliberate, some accidental, involving various types of firearms. Robert Churchill was played by Wensley Pithey. Do any episodes survive at all? I have my doubts, given the obscurity of the serial, but I would love to be proved wrong, especially if any episodes are available to buy.

CALL THE GUN EXPERT 1. The Jockey Cap Case - 2/7/64 2. The Trick That Failed - 9/7/64 3. Green Bicycle - 16/7/64 4. Teenage Murderer - 23/7/64 5. The Whistling Copse - 30/7/64 6. Perfect Crime - 6/8/64
The series was made by the current affairs department on film, I think by the "Tonight" unit (they made lots of things, including "The Great War"). The series exists complete in the archive on 16mm b/w film. "The Other Mr Churchill" was the book that the series was based on. Producer was Jack Gold, narration was by Macdonald Hastings.

Thanks for the information, Andrew. I'm pleased to hear that the series still exists in the archive. The down side is, I suppose, that it is unlikey that it would ever be released on DVD/video. It is perhaps possible that it might surface on a digital channel one day. Here's hoping!
