It wasn't from Lift Off (as it pre-dates it) or even Blue Peter originally, although it was probably shown on both. I remember seeing it from quite a young age on TV and it seems to have been around since at least the early 1960s. It used to pop up often; possibly sometimes as filler when there were a few minutes to cover between programmes. Does anyone know the original source of this charming clip though? I'd guess it's US originated in some way or other but I didn't know it was made in colour until more recently.

I'd love to know when it was made. There was a Henry's Cat-style animated version of the parody which was shown in U.S. cinemas in 1967. The Blue Peter broadcast of our version was 7/2/1966.

Yes, it would have been made well before that though as I remember seeing at from a very young age - so the early '60s at least.

Hi William ,thanks so much mate for another rare article you have found on lift off ,not a very good review of the first show by reading the article ,but if the reviewer at the time had realised some 45 years later that these lift off shows would have no been priceless in the world of pop music if only they had survived the wipings .There are so many artists ,obscure and popular in the pop world that graced the lift off studios that im sure many of those artists today would love to see their performances once again ,im still on the trail William of if wings actually appeared at Granada studios or not in December 1973 to sing Helen wheels ,it was on the same show as t rex performed truck on tyke ,on paul McCartney and wings notes from that year it says that they went to Granada studios to do lift off ,but im wondering if this info is correct because they didn't manage to do totp with that song ,it could well have been a promo that was shown ,so if you find any info William on the December articles of lift off with ayshea if there are any in the papers you are researching please let us know ,and it goes without saying if any of the dance troupe ,The Feet are mentioned anywhere please let us know.once again many thanks William for making the time to research the pop show lift off for us ,very much appreciated mate.

Keith Badman's book, 'The Beatles After The Break-Up: A Day-By-Day Diary' also says he did. The entry for December 19 1973 reads...In Studio 6 at Granada TV studios in Quay St, Manchester, Paul and Wings assemble to perform a mimed version of Helen Wheels in today's edition of Lift Off With Ayshea, hosted by Ayshea Brough, and transmitted live across the ITV network between 4.21 and 4.49pm. The show also features Marc Bolan and T. Rex and Freddy Garrity.

Hi neil so it does look like that paul and wings did appear in the lift off studios ,if that is the case what a great show that must have been ,wings performing and t rex both on the same show ,I cant believe that Granada didn't save this edition.

Hi Jerry, You're welcome! I would have answered earlier, but I see Neil has beaten me to it. I'm not long back from the National Library of Scotland,I go every Tuesday, so in my next few trips I'll try and look through some old newspapers etc to see if I can get any further info for you cheers William

yes thanks William for the great pic of ayshea ,I wonder if the girls in the background are the dancers from the show ,or the backing singers of the show.

judging by their body language my guess is that they are backing singers,I wonder who the woman next to Ayshea was?
