This is great news!Thanks for posting this Paul,very much appreciated.With material dating back to 1922!!Must admit am very much looking forward to seeing some of this mentioned material.Have heard murmurings about this possibility for years,glad to see the BBC are considering a more "democratic"(as they word it) approach here.
Looking forward to hearing further information on this pioneering project!

It's something that's been needed for a long time, given the BBC's apparent lack of interest in making use of it's archive in other ways that gives us access to it. It'll be fascinating to see what the definition of "free or very cheap" actually translates as, bearing in mind that there are plenty of official websites where you can tap into film and video archives of one kind or another if you've got endless money to spend. True public access (which is appropriate for BBC material) should be free or for a nominal fee only, as suggested in the quote. In theory it's a wonderful idea and i'll be watching to see what happens next...
