Dear all,
I posted this in general TV as it's an arts programme but Ray suggested I post this here.
The missing three programmes of the 1980 series of the midlands regional programme 'Look! Hear!' have been returned to the BBC.
The three editions feature live performances from 'The Selecter', The Beat', 'Magnum', 'Diamondhead' and 'The Delegation'. All the other editions of the series from 1977 to 1981 survive on their original tapes.
These recordings were made directly from the quad TX masters before the tapes were wiped and are in very good playable condition on VHS.
The transmission dates are:
4. 29/01/1980 - Music from 'Diamondhead' & 'The Selecter' 5. 05/02/1980 - Music from 'Delegation' & 'The Beat' 7. 26/02/1980 - Music from 'Magnum' & 'The Swinging Cats'
I'm transferring the material later and I'll post a track listing tonight. From a cursory look at episode 4 (of which there are two different transfers) Diamondhead do 'Streets of Gold' and 'Helpless' and The Selecter do 'Three Minute Hero', 'Every Day' and 'Too Much Pressure'. These are genuine live performances and in the case of 'Too Much Pressure' where the audience invades the stage and try to get the mikes off Pauline Black et al, the set was reprised at the end of the series in episode 8 (which does exist) but with the credits rolling over part of it.
I should thank John Holmes, a radio presenter at BBC Radio Nottingham and former 'Look! Hear!' presenter for loaning me his copies.
We now have a complete catalogue of 'Look! Hear!'.
Regards,
Paul

Thanks for this - some people may miss it, as some viewers of the site particularly look on certain boards only. Curious as to who the second act on 26/02/1980 is.

This is great news! A friend of mine is good mates with Diamond Head guitarist Brian Tatler who has been searching for a copy of his performance for years. I will forward this info onto him.

I remember Toyah Wilcox presenting this.
A question that's bugging me; I seem to recall Toyah appearing on a BBC Birmingham show round about 76. It must have been the early days of punk.
Is my memory playing tricks with me?
I've searched my kal guide but no clues.

The Birmingham Mail has an archive print most Saturdays.
A 1980 one mentioned major bbc cutbacks e.g. the orchestra fonded by Lorrie Paramour was axed.
It mentioned Look! Hear was to be one of the casualties.
