...As safe as anything can be these days. Plenty of prints were made because in their early life they were shown in the cinema as well! as a curtain raiser to the main film. Both cinema and TV tended to treat the poor things with contempt ,often just chopping out chunks willy nilly so that they would fit a timeslot, leaving the viewer in some cases slightly baffled about the story. However they did stirling service for ITV in 60/70/80s plugging large holes in the schedule and plenty of people think they deserve a reappraisal as you say in the form a DVD or reshowing.
Although the Shadows did release a version of the theme tune, it was actually written by Michael 'white horses' Carr .The arrangement on the programme was by Bernard Ebbinhouse perhaps more famous for his 'the Human Jungle' theme written by John Barry.

I'd certainly like to see the series on DVD. I think it would have appeal as a lot people remember it.

yes love to see all those great old character actors performances again IE Alfred Burke as the dodgy factory owner. Harry H Corbett as a copper. Michael Caine as an Irish safe cracker with a very dodgy accent. to name but a few.

some ITV regions did show them about 2 in the morning over the weekends about 15 years ago(as you say plugging gaps during the 80s) so perhaps someone still has a few recordings? also john thaw did a couple

Lester there are quite few threads here somewhere on the subject of old Edgar's series, in case you cannot find them, this is perhaps a repaet of what has been said already. The answer is probably No. The theme tune arrangement was routinely changed throught the series until it disappeared all together in the last year.

I was privileged to see The Shadows perform, as part of their Final Tour, in Ipswich last Friday (May 14th). When they came to 'Man of Mystery', Hank slowly turned full circle (twice), statuesque style, as he played the tune, in clear homage to ... well, you all know that bit.
