You mentioned The World of Beachcomber. I have an episode of that, perhaps two. Hilarious. Are there episodes missing? I didn't realise. Was The Eamonn Andrews Show a talk show? Hi Dave. I think there are some if not all editions of 'Beachcomber' are missing although I don't know enough about the series to be sure; I'm sure others will chip in with the info. The Eamonn Andrews show was a light entertainment chat show with musical performances. Some excellent guests as I understand it. It was on either ABC or Associated Rediffusion; no idea what exists if anything apart from these audio recordings. Cheers, Paul

Thanks Paul, I just had to look up and check I have my facts right about The World of Beachcomber and realised it was TV. My copies are on audio tape. Was there a radio version or would mine be off-air? Spike Milligan, Clive Dunn and others appear. From memory Frank Thornton or Deryck Guyler may also be in it. I'll have to dig them out now, I think i have two episodes.

I have just located the tape with The World of Beachcomber on it. I suspect that rather than an episode soundtrack this could in fact be from an LP record release as the chap who copied it for me has marked it as Part A and Part B. Not sure though. Did they release an album?
The cast are Spike Milligan, George Henson, Patricia Hayes, Hattie Jacques, Frank Thornton, Julian Orchard and Sheila Staefel. Cracking cast.

Just to reply to various queries, The Eamonn Andrews Show was ABC originally (and later Thames). As far as I know, there are only two episodes in existence, both ABC (at the BFI) from 1966 and 1968 respectively plus a short clip of another as featured in ABC's final broadcast "Goodbye To ABC" . There seem to be no Thames editions whatsoever. So any audio recordings would be a welcome addition!
The World Of Beachcomber: according to Kal, only one episode exists (as a b/w t/r, although they were all in colour originally, being on BBC-2) plus some colour film inserts. I used to watch this show originally. Spike Milligan starred in this version although I think there may also have been radio versions of Beachcomber at different times, which is where the confusion may arise. Again though, audios of BBC-2's version would be very welcome, given it's extremely poor showing in the official archives.

Thanks Laurence. You have reminded me that BBC7 have aired some radio versions of The World of Beachcomber which had a completely different cast. My audio version certainly has Spike leading the cast. So it's either from TV or perhaps an LP I guess.

The two '66 entries seem to be the same show though (despite different dates), which is the edition I was referring to. I'd forgotten about the '67 one with Orton, which is a welcome addition. Probably only the '60s items that have detailed contents listed are the survivors though (the BFI Database being an index of shows rather than only things which exist). The BFI book "A For Andromeda To Zoo Time" also lists a 1968 edition as existing in the NFTVA, featuring Cassius Clay. This makes a total of three ABC editions, although sadly no '60s Thames shows.

There are 35 editions of Eamonn Andrews recorded that we have found a record of in Eds collection ranging from 1967 to April 1969.
I'll post a list of dates as soon as we've confirmed they exist!
Regards,
Paul
