i wonder if anyone can help me on this, if totp showed a promo it was sometimes made in the usa and then sent over here to be shown on the show. now were there more than 1 copy of these promos made and if there were would this mean that they could still survive elsewhere especially if they come from a missing episode.for example if the promo for the beach boys god only knows is shown on totp that episode is now missing would they have made more copies of that promo which could still be out there somewhere.

I'm not sure but I'm hopeful of that all or at least several promo films sent from the USA and shown on subsequently wiped editions of Top of the Pops would exist somewhere in all or many cases. Some of the others might know more on this, but I know of some promo films: Elvis Presley's American Trilogy - On the 22/06/72 Top of the Pops, of which about the first 10 minutes of the Low Band video tape were wiped but recovered by BBC Scotland in 1999, the tape starts a second after the start of Elvis's promo film, while the BBC has a completely separate copy of the same film without anything missing. Unfortunately, I haven't come across any missing Beach Boys promo films outside the BBC (although there could be some, hopefully), but among the various promo films I've found and posted in my "Top of the Pops" threads, several definitely from Top of the Pops (and others possibly but not confirmed to have been broadcasted on Top of the Pops, like Traffic's Paper Sun and Hole in My Shoe, Spencer Davis Group's I'm a Man, The Mixtures-The Pushbike Song, Dawn's Tie a Yellow Ribbon, etc), here are some that exist outside the BBC: uk.youtube.com/watch?v=s8lA80atSgQ - The Move-Flowers in the Rain (Promo Film) 28/09/67 (Jimmy Savile), b/w: Insert – Colour promo seen in black and white before the link was removed, but quoted by the poster as from the above edition of Top of the Pops – Now uploaded via this link
