for many years i had this picture in my mind of seeing janie jones on top of the pops back in 1965 singing witches brew from what i remember she was dressed up as a witch stirring a pot of boiling water. but when totp database was online i checked this performence out and couldn't find any trace of her ever being on the show .she did appear on thank your lucky stars on dec 11th 1965 so my memories might be from this.i wondered if anyone else has seen or remembers her doing this song on any tv show or if it could exists which i doubt.

Funny you should mention this song... I was just listening to it a few minutes ago!
It's possible you're thinking of her appearance on TYLS. However... I believe she made a promo film for this song which is still in the EMI vault. Never seen it but from what I've read it was rather moody and I'd guess she would had dressed up as a witch for that!

This has just nudged my memory too! I recall her singing the song in exactly that scenario (stirring a witches' cauldron in costume with big pointed hat etc.) but this was on a children's show, not TOTP, but around the same time, 1965-ish (whatever the show was, it was quite like a pop show but the audience surrounding her were all children). This was definitely a personal appearance and not a promo. I'd imagine that was her standard presentation for the song in a lot of TV appearances though. It seemed quite startling for the time and, athough more of a novelty piece, only Screaming Lord Sutch was doing anything in the rock-horror field like it then.
I'd be interested to know what exists of her songs in any of the TV archives. I've never seen anything at all since the time.

Janie Jones appeared on Thank your Lucky Stars on the 11th December 65 and the 26th March 1966. No vt, audio or stills exist as far as is known. That show sounds like Redifussion's 5 O'Clock club. Not a second exists as far as I know! The nearest we have is a hilarious parody by Denise Coffey in DNAYS. What a shame!

Yes, quite possibly was Five O Clock Club. It had that sort of look to it. Actually, that's a show that is near the top of my list of something missing that i'd like to see an episode of again!
Wonder if there's ANY footage of a Janie performance from that time though?

Janie released "Witches Brew" in December 1965. I'm sure 5 O' Clock Club was on the air by then.
The follow up released in February 1966 was "Gunning For You" which is probably what she performed on her second TYLS appearance.

However, the Clash were big fans of Janie who released a song devoted to her: uk.youtube.com/watch?v=6EUVImnHr48 – Capital Radio and Janie Jones uk.youtube.com/watch?v=xrpb-iolYz0 – Paris Chorus and Janie Jones

Not only did the Clash do a song about Janie Jones but if my memory serves me correctly they also released a single with her as Janie Jones and the Lash.
