I recently watched the 1970s tv serial "Sam",and was impressed by Michael Goodliffes portrayel of the head of the family.Does any know why he commited suicide by jumping off the roof of a hospital building?.

yes MG certainly added value to whatever he was appearing in. He IMHO made the house his very own in the avenger's episode ' the house that jack built' and of course was brilliant as the deadly widower in Randall & Hopkirk.
The hospital incident have never been quite explained IE did he jump or was he pushed? there was rumours about him being concerned about subversion being incorporated into TV programmes?

Well, along with obviously suffering from deep depression it was reported that Goodliffe just didn't think he'd ever get a role as good as Sam's grandfather again
