Just browsing through the BFI database i came across this show. Does anyone know if this still exists? in particular Roy Wood singing 'Story of my Love' which as far as i was aware , there was no footage still in existence for.
MUSIC VIDEO SHOW: MUSIC VIDEO SHOW. NO.16. PART 1

There's a whole load of Music Video Shows that tha BFI have but you can't view them personally because they only exist on 16 mm film. I think the series(from around 1976) was shown mainly on TV stations in Europe.

I think the series(from around 1976) was shown mainly on TV stations in Europe. I've got 2 eps of this series, both on umatic, literally pulled from a dumpster. One of them (ep 26) appears to be held by the BFI but couldn't find the other. There is a lot of "bleeding" across the colours which means the clarity of the image is pretty bad - still, I guess that's not bad for 30+ year umatics which sat outside in a shed for years. I've always wondered about where this program was screened and what was its purpose. From memory, the eps don't have any credits and have been put together in a way that suggests they were never intended for television broadcast. I'd be interested to know more about the show's history. LD

Is this anything like those "Music Unlimited" type films? Sounds basically the same with various artists promoting their songs by way of miming them in outside locations etc. Some have been used on various VHS releases in the past to represent years of the '70s musically. Not sure what market they had back then; possibly filler at cinemas or even home movie distribution? Just guessing here.

I was thinking the same thing Lawrence! Wonder if it was the same company who made these shows or the same production team. It's good such films like these exist since they pretty much come from an era where TV archive material is spotty.

Some of these videos ( or now, DVDs ) are excellent. SOUNDS OF THE 70S, FANTASTIC HITS OF THE 70S, BIG HITS OF THE 70S SUPER 70S etc. Theres some superb promo films on these compilations. Hits by the likes of WHITE PLAINS, MUNGO JERRY, GILBERT O SULLIVAN, HOT CHOCOLATE, EDISON LIGHTHOUSE etc. To some folk, there does appear to be a few "filler" tracks, but considering these were made for the Dutch or German markets, the songs were more than likely all big hits over there. These can sometimes be picked up on EBAY for a few pence, or, as Ive found out a few times, can also be found in either Second hand shops or places like CASH CONVERTERS or CASH GENERATORS. Well worth hunting out !

They are indeed excellent Eric. Fill in some nice gaps where TV footage seems to have been lost. My personal favourite has to be The Sweet one with them on the beach... just what was that limbo dancer all about?

Don't think this is the same as the 'Sensational sounds' videos which were specially filmed inserts.
I seem to remember this, or something similar, being shown on ITV circa 1975-77 at teatime. If memory serves i think it might have been titled 'Nicky Horne's Music Video Show'. and it showed promo videos and odd tv appearances.

I happened to see this show listing whilst checking through the new BFI database
Though I'd reactivate this thread as I came across the thread link whilst looking for info on the show in a Google search
Did anyone ever get to the bottom of who made this show and which channels showed it - seems there were 26 shows in the run.
Possibly some rare footage in there
