I think you've attempted to put words into my mouth there.
My post should provide a useful insight though as to why there may be people 'out there' who are not rushing back to return something to this particular careless owner.
To pick up on your post though, I would urge people to read some of the threads on this forum and recognise people who are involved with film restoration privately or at least have the equipment to roll it. Personally I would speak to them first about stuff in the proverbial attic that was left by old Uncle Stan.

Its not really about returning stuff for the BBCs benefit is it. Its about letting people enjoy something that they want to watch. I dont give two hoots for the BBC.

Well as I'm not a citizen of the UK, the only money I pay to the BBC is when I buy one of their DVDs. And if I were to find something that was missing, I'd gladly give it back to them. We have our own taxpayer funded stations here in ABC (100% government funded) and SBS (partially government funded). I have no problems with my tax dollars going to either group.
