As we all know already, this November will see the 45th anniversary of Doctor Who.
Does anyone know if the BBC is planning to release anything 'special' to commemorate this event.
And by special I don't just mean a regular DVD or whatever of previously released material with a few guest commentaries etc thrown in.
Maybe special along the lines of something to do with missing Troughton eps, or preferrably missing Hartnell eps since it is HIS Doctor's anniversary.

No, nothing special is planned - mainly because no one thinks that 45 years much of an anniversary to celebrate! ;D

45 years is not worthy of celebration I'm shocked. 45 years is no more a landmark celebration that 43 or 44. Doctor Who's Golden Anniversary will be the next one marked. Richard

So by that logic 25 is also no more special than 22 or 23. Generally speaking, anniversaries ending with a 5 or 0 tend to be celebrated more. Ah well, here's looking forward to a release of 107 'recently discovered ' episodes as part of the the 50th anniversary

What could they do for missing Hartnell and Troughton episodes? Haven't all of those surviving episodes been released on VHS or DVD already?

Yeah...... I thought that every last clip had been released already...? I dont think they could necessarily get a bunch of missing Troughton specificaly for the anniversary.

I was being a little sarcastic when mentioning the release of 107 newly discoverd episodes (DMP7 is DEFINITELY gone for good) But maybe we can see something along the lines of 'Invasion' in 5 years time. Maybe policy will change and for the 50th Anniversary, Auntie BBC will cartoonise all of Hartnell' missing stories for us (so now i'm being optimistic)

Yus, I figured you were joking. An animated episode or something would be nice, I dont know if they will do it though. Have you seen some of the rather interesting fan animations that are happening at the moment? Might be of interest to you.

Yes, I seem to recall someone asked about the possibility of marking the 45th anniversary in some way on the DW tech forum not too long ago. The reply was that nothing was on the cards as far as they knew. I'd have thought personally that the 50th was a far more significant date to mark.

No I've not seen the fan animations and am not sure they would be anything like the quality of those done for Invasion. Although I do have a recon of every missing ep. I really hope for 'something special' for the 50th, by way of animation/cgi or whatever, for Hartnell/Troughton. Even if it is only 1 story that they 'complete'. Maybe from now until 'decision time' by the BBC, a poll can be set up to vote for the 'story' that fans would like 'completing' the most, with the 'winner' being the one that gets SERIOUS consideration for 'completion' using animation or cgi or whatever, by the BBC. It would be a VERY tough choice because there are quite a few very outstanding candidates in particular. Marco Polo. Daleks Master Plan (along with Mission To The Unknown). Power Of The Daleks. Tenth Planet Of course there are many others, especially from Troughton's 'monster run', but I believe the 'winner' will come from the ones listed above.

Watch the video! www.youtube.com/watch?v=V9-faPpeRLoMy ears are burning - you must be talking about me. Hi there. Yes, I'm currently animating lost episode material, such as from Evil of the Daleks episode 7. I was doing this as a pilot to show Dan Hall and Mark Ayres and the DVD release team but they don't seem too interested. Still, you never can tell. I hope fans will support me in this endeavor. It would be marvelous to get real official funding, but any fan interest helps. I'm still looking for additional animators to help out as well.
