What is the archive status of this series? If I remember correctly it was broadcast c 1975-76 so may well be on the cusp in terms of junking policy. It was an updated version of The Canterbury Tales, based on some rugby league fans going to Wembley and tellling stories on the way ("The Wife of Batley's Tale", "The Fryer's Tale" etc) and had an early appearance by the excellent Paul Copley, as well as 'Selwyn Froggit'.

Yep, an Alan Plater serial from BBC Birmingham. Produced by David Rose.

It's interesting as an early serial by him, and the format is refreshingly non-naturalistic with songs and plays-within-plays featuring the regulars (who are rugby fans travelling in a minibus to Twickenham) in little tales as per "Canterbury Tales". Another obscure Plater serial which also exists from a year or so later is "Middlemen" with Frank Windsor and Francis Matthews, again a David Rose production - more naturalistic, but still quite strange, and odd episode titles as the Beiderbecke serials had later... ("Middlemen" also exists complete incidentally) - sorry, things that exist are a bit OT!
