It's not a link, Rob. It's just an emphasised word.

dur! thanks for that - is there a detailed list of all the country sales, and what happened to each of the prints afterwards, such as bicycled on, alleged destroyed, fate unknown, etc?

well without this info every effort is nothing more than a shot in the dark.
if the NZ info is the only hard documented info then this is where to start. one episode already found but it looks like the well has run dry on the islands - after all the total population cannot be more than 4 mill (and 10 mill sheep) - you could go round and knock on the doors of all the film collectorsa their; it wouldn't take long!
i'd suggest that the best place to look is to follow the evidence trail and look more closely at Singapore - are there any hard facts known about what happened to those prints?

i'd suggest that the best place to look is to follow the evidence trail and look more closely at Singapore - are there any hard facts known about what happened to those prints? Based on the known airdates for both countries, I suspect some of the prints screened in NZ had come from Singapore. The surviving NZBC documentation I've seen - film traffic records and censors' diaries - only exist still due to 'error'. The paper-based NZBC film records should have been destroyed but weren't, and the paper-based censor info held in the state archives is only a mere fraction of all the records that had been made over the years. I've seen paperwork listing the documents and files that TVNZ offered to the archives in the early 1990s, but which the archive said no to. It made me cry.

I'm sorry to say this parallels my experience. In July 2006 ABC agreed to give me full access to everything a researcher could dream of, but upon arrival they showed me a desultory handful of film history cards from 1977 and '78. I asked if these were being given to the National Archives and they said these were going to be destroyed. If their horrible story's correct the only remnant of those particular cards are now my notes and any copies Damian Shanahan could have made.
I'll join you for a bit of a cry.
