With the brilliant BBC4 continually showing some excellent archival material (especially with this weeks 1973 Week) its perhaps a great time to write to BBC4 suggesting an evening on missing Doctor Who. BBC4 seem very keen on feedback on their official website and this is perhaps the bext place to bring the missing episode plight to a larger audience?
With the new season almost upon us and the Green Death currently being repeated its probably the best chance of the year to get this sort of evening highlighted.
I have emailed BBC4 with the idea. If anyone has a minute or two perhaps you could do the same.

Why is it that so many people seem to focus exclusively on "Dr Who" when discussing missing television? It may be news to some but "Dr Who" is NOT the only series missing episodes...
Perhaps, even if BBC4 were remotely interested in funding a special programme on the ad hoc nature of how TV material was retained, they might be inclined to look at all missing BBC shows rather than focus on one show only.
Even the funding of such a programme (planning, production, air-time etc.) might not be that easy to justify - especially if the only impetus for its existence would be a hope that another episode that COULD be currently missing MIGHT be sitting in the loft of someone who MAY be inclined to return it...

Pardon me but how do you know I am only interested in missing Doctor Who episodes? I would be very pleased for ANY missing programmes to return.
Yes, you are more than likley right in that if BBC4 were to do such a programme it would be more likely they would do an "overview" of all missing TV.
However I am first and foremost a Doctor Who fan and I did post this on the Doctor Who section.
I was trying to suggest something positive as I firmly believe that unless people keep suggesting new ideas, following leads, e.t.c then material is less likely to materialise.

Fair enough to the above, Chris, however I was not targeting you personally. I worded my posting to address the general "Dr Who" population as generically as possible. I apologise if you thought I focussed on you exclusively as the bastion of "Dr Who" fandom - that was not my intention. I do have some knowledge of the commissioning process for television programming and my thoughts on the likelihood of such a pitch being approved formed the main impetus of my response. I do accept that I also took the opportunity to comment also on the apparent attitudes of some (younger?) "Dr Who" fans and their perceived notions of television "cultural heritage". It has been noted that some of that demographic crowd still regard that particular programme to be at the pinnacle of such a grouping...

Thanks Bevan I am a bit of a "bastion" but cant profess to be the bastion of Who fandom though Interesting to read about your knowledge of the commissioning process. I can appreciate its a long evoluted process and money rears its ugly head throughout it at all times I guess? I was just hoping to ride the crest of the current BBC4 wave!

"some" knowledge is perhaps a better turn of phrase. I only know how incredibly frustrating it can be from trying to get my own projects off the ground - I was lucky enough to have been given some very sage advice from people involved in the process... (I'm predominantly a writer having been lucky enough to work on several short film projects dating back to around 1995-ish to the present). I have been working on several projects for television (drama) for some years now but keep finding that the goal posts keep moving... I still live in hope that one day I'll get at least one of them commissioned...

I work with alot of actors and writers (I am neither) and totally understand where you are coming from. I have seen how frustrating the process gets for all of them. You are right to keep trying though! I know I seem to be banging on about BBC4 but a writer friend of mine is now sending her work to them after seeing what they did with Fantabulosa. Have you tried going via them? PS. I dont work for BBC4, honest!
