Would any picture be left on the DVD-R discs by 2007 though?

Quite! Take back a Digi-Beta or DV machine and masses of tapes instead! I'd record all the Troughton Doctor Whos, all TOTP, Colour Me Pop and a huge chunk of the Rediffusion archive.

Nah, sod all that crap. Just go back in time and make sure the BBC don't wipe the tapes in the first place. Steal them as they're being bundled off for wiping or destruction. Or hang out at ABC or TVNZ or Iran TV and snaffle the film prints as they're marked for burning.

so which format could possibly survive 40 years ?? Well, 2" quads have. In fact, the oldest ones (late '50s) have lasted getting on for 50 years now and still play! A pretty durable format, as it turned out. Although most have now been transferred to digital formats, occasionaly a new transfer has to be made (which could only happen if the originals still played). They may not play as they did on day one but no one can say they haven't lasted well.

An easier (and nearer to home) way to save lots of missing TV would be to just hang around the skip outside Rediffusion's London offices on 30/8/68 and the days thereafter (according to legend anyway)!

The Gunfighters or anything from the Colin Baker/Sylvester McCoy era for either of the Troughton Dalek stories, it's quite sad the people at the Beeb decided to retain The Gunfighters over other more interesting stories an example of the Genre.

I would swap Time and the Rani for any missing episode. It's really sad that there are episodes missing.

I'll put a further condition on this, the memory of every episode you swap is erased from your mind so you can't remember watching it.

I'd glady have my memory erased of The Time and the Rani. In fact I would rather have the Marco Polo Telesnaps for episode 4 found in exchange for The Time and the Rani
