This really is a long shot, but what if there are any dr who fans who are also millionaire's, what would the chance being is said millionaire went to every TV station to purchase the show and checked every single film can contents for dr who - using a team of people and money as no object.
I would do it if I had a 10 mill lotto win!!.
I bet some would turn up

Rather I would use the money to set up my OWN production company to produce my own ideas without having to go through the rigmarole of having to keep submitting proposals to the various funding bodies for financial backing (which is never anywhere near enough money for any given project anyway - they never approve the full max. amount). I guess other film makers would have a similar attitude...

I'd probably do the old "restore-the-missing-episode-using-cgi" trick.

If you had ten million pounds, you really wouldn't fundamentally waste it on such a project even if you say you would. Sure, I'd be willing to pay a finder's fee (and not just for Doctor Who) to encourage recoveries, but you would have to be insane to undertake this project. I don't know if offering a cash incentive to the television archives would help them to have a looksee, but I doubt it.

A bit hyper-critical there, Andrew.....(and no, I'm not misspelling hypocritical)!
Ah, if only classical Greek were not such a neglected subject in schools these days ;D

Wasting £10m trying to find old Doctor Who would be little short of criminal IMHO... if I couldn't spend it on my family, I'd rather give the money to charity.

Hi Guys, If I had that kind of dosh I would give SOME for an overseas search, not for Dr. Who only though. I remember Dick Fiddy on another thread wishing their was a nice pot of cash for him to take up the task of doing the checking. Either way though, if anyone wins that kind of dosh it really is up to the individual to do with it what he/she wants. I don't have much family to give to, so after looking after my friends and a donation to my favourite charities and after investing for my future, what do I do with the other £5 million ?? Indulge in your pastimes and hobbies and interests of course, and if this floats your boat, whats it got to do with anyone else. Especially if you find a few choice things, people will suddenly love you for it. Unless of course, you are Ian Levine and kept ramming the point home some 30 years later ;D If it costs to do a check and some one is prepared to pay for it, who gives a stuff, let them do it I say. It is their cash after all.

I seem to remember some archives stating that they could have episodes in thier collection, but were wondering what they would gain by divulging them to the BBC for copying. I would say, give the archive some royalties from the episodes sale, that seems fair.

The only way anyone other than the BBC would make any money out of missing episodes would be if a generous & rich fan was willing to buy the prints off whoever had them.

So you think the BBC would seriously consider giving these countries money for keeping film prints that they should have returned or destroyed? I'd love to see some missing Who episodes turn up, but even I'd be a bit annoyed if they spent my licence fee doing that!

I wouldn't (to find old TV generally though - not just DW). me neither, and yes all missing tv not just dw , but I get your point about not wanting to have your licence spent on looking for old TV, after all it's supposed to be spent making new stuff, but personaly I think they should be looking.
