Does anyone know how many episodes of Much Binding In The Marsh survive? Similarly, the survival rate for ITMA? Been listening to them on BBC 7 and they really do shine after all these years.
All help appreciated!

There are two Titles to play with here, 'Much Binding in the Marsh' and 'Much Binding' both refer to the same show really and there are some good sites on the Net which will explain more. Of the first, the BBC lists around 12 in its catalogue and 3 of the second. Although regionally and with Transcription Disks they may well be sitting on more. In private hands I think well over 80% of the shows survive. They are still popular because you can hear the echoes of a new comedy genre starting to develop as the whole idea of a situation based comedy starts to grow in the 50s much helped by shows like Life with the Lyons.
One of my favourite episodes though is from the Men from the Ministry who visit Much Binding in the Marsh airfield to find that the gang are still up to no end of fiddles after no one remembered to demob them at the war end. I leave you to guess who might have been responsible. One of the few instances I can remember of two famous Radio Shows joining up.
ITMA I havent got much information on surviving shows at present.

ITMA
Out of a total of 307 shows made, approx 47 shows survive (maybe one or two more?), not sure of the exact figure, and several incomplete extracts.

Much thanks for the feedback. It's encouraging to hear about that 80% survival rate. As a follow-up question, does anyone know if any of these officially missing MBITM episodes are available anywhere?
