I just picked up all 12 episodes of this play series on 10 inch BBC T/S discs still in the original shipping box. The expiry date is 1960. From what I find on the net, this series was originally broadcast in '41-'42. Is it fair to assume this series exists in full and I haven't found anything missing?

There were three productions of this, in 1941/2, 1944 and 1951. The original version is missing episode 11, the other two exist complete (the 1944 production had virtually the same cast as 41/2). Given the expiry date they're likely to be the most recent production in which case they're not missing.

Thanks for the information. I found them yesterday in an antique shop in Williamsburg, Virginia. Too bad it's not missing material, but still neat to have.

Hi, Greg I believe this particular series was produced on a number of occasions by the BBC and if I remember correctly there was a series in the early-50s, which could well be those you have, from the expiry date. An excellent addition to your collection and one that deserves to get out, if you have the facility to transfer the discs successfully! Well Done.

Actually all the discs are 10" so transfer is not a problem.

Hi Greg I have a friend who is very keen to acquire a recording of "The Man Born to be King". Coincidentally, she lives in Richmond, Virginia! Do you have any label details you would be prepared to send me so I could forward them to her? Jenny

They're yellow-orange label BBC transcription service discs with an expiry date of 1960. I assume from the responses above it's the 1951 version of the play. Unfortunately the discs are in storage in the States and I now live in Korea. (South Korea of course.) I didn't get the chance to make copies before I moved.
