The Waterboys never played their most famous song, The Whole of the Moon, on Top of the Pops because at the time main-man Mike Scott refused to appear unless the performance was live - this would have been November 1985. There is a suggestion that the band was booked and that Scott actually walked out of the studio and refused to play. If there is anyone with access to TOTP records (Laurence?) is there anyway of confirming or denying this please? Also, the TOTP database indicates that the promotional film for the single wasn't used until the record became a bigger hit second time around in 1991, is this definitely correct? Bit OT - sorry for that!
Regards, Ian
