Does anyone know what appeared on Old grey whistle test (all)? Or other U.K. apprearences?
As far as I know the list is thus -
OGWT 1971 (interview with Richard Williams). Don Van Vlient (Beefheart) didn't answer the interviewee questions but in surreal style repeated them all. (WIPED)
OGWT 1973 -74 (film clip - live 'big eyed beans from venus'). The show originally screening it was probably live. It was a film stock live performance. I think Beefheart was dressed as a chinaman, in white. He appears so on the cover of 'clear spot'. Apparently it was requested again and Bob Harris played it in a later repeat. Does anyone have dates? Obviously the clip source would exist if not the show.
OGWT 1973 (session) Live studio session often used. Unfortunately Beefheart used a new session based 'magic band' and the session was neither his best nor typical of his output.
OGWT 1975 (session) Another appeared in 75 or so. I can't comment what it was like, but with 1980s 'ice cream for crow' he'd clearly revived his earlier disjointed style.
OGWT 1975 - Seem to recall an interview with Frank Zappa and beefheart sitting round a table as on their collaboration L.P. 'Bongo furay'. The L.P. was current then, but wonder if I imagined this? No exact date again.
OGWT 1980 'ice cream for crow'. This later Virgin records cut went back to his stronger early 'magic band' style.
