I'm pretty certain TOTP used the performance from the 1980 Floor Show for this tune. I don't think a promo was ever made for 'Sorrow'.

Same has been used in Australia as a promo - several times in the 90s at least. Gorgeous quality too! I'd so like a full release of the Floor Show... Any reason why there hasn't been one, or even a repeat...?

I heard that NBC were wanting something ridiculous like 500,000 for this show. Not sure if that's dollars or pounds but either way it'll never come out if that's what they're charging. A shame because The 1980 Floor Show is a fantastic bit of music tv.

"Sorrow" is only listed as a 'disc' on the database, so it would have either been danced to by Pan's People or played over the chart rundown/end credits

Or was that a Space Oddity oddity? Speaking of which, what happened to the 4th January, 1973 "performance" of Jean Genie? And the 18th May, 1973 "promo" of Drive In Saturday, and that of Laughing Gnome - were these just TOTP-made things? And what made the Golden Years entries "special". (Haven't looked at that database in a while and it makes one so very intrigued... )

From what I remember of the original TOTP transmissions, for 'Golden Years' they showed a clip of Bowie performing the song on the U.S. show 'Soul Train'.

I remember him doing Golden Years on Russell Harty's show as well - presumably this one is missing?! I haven't seen clips since. Don't know if he promoted it elsewhere on UK TV or not.

That was the 'Golden Years' from Soul Train which appeared on this Russell Harty 28.11.75 interview. members.ol.com.au/rgriffin/GoldenYears/751128RH.htmlThis is still in the archive i believe. 'Sorrow' from 1980 Floorshow was never shown on TOTP's. It's still unreleased. Tim

"Golden Years" which was performed on the US 'Soul Train' show in 1975 was the performance which was shown twice on TOTP in late 1975, which as you probably already know, doesn`t exist through TOTP, as nothing after 4/9/75 until 23/12/75 is in the official archive, and the "Golden Years" clips were shown around late November & early December that year.

(Haven't looked at that database in a while and it makes one so very intrigued... ;) ) 'Laughing Gnome' was a (terrible) TOTP in house film. It could have looked sinister the plastic gnome used had been animated, but it was cut price, with an offscreen hand bobbing the prop up and down as if it was walking along a garden wall. I think he then saw himself on a TV sitting in front of it in a sitting room. A literal interpretation. 'Life on mars' was another TOTP film using news footage of nuclear bomb tests and apollo mission take offs. I vaguely recall a TOTP studio appearence for 'Drive in Saturday' but the memory is submerged by the appearence on 'Russel Harty plus'. The only things I recall on TOTP for 'Jean Genie' were the Mick Rock promo and one of a Pans people member made up with an afro wig, siver (?) face make up and buggle type sunspecs. The shot started as OGWT 'Queen bitch' on her stack heel boots then panning up. I'm sure I recall a studio VT for 'Sorrow' but as you say this was probably the U.S. clip. Some thing appeared for 'Rebel rebel' but I'm almost sure it was a live film clip not Bowie in the TOTP studio. 'Starman' was, of course, studio, though for 'John I'm only dancing' it was definitely the Mick Rock promo only, and once only I'm afraid (I think!)
