Noted recent clips in the very good BBC 'Jazz Britannia' series apparently from 'In concert - Mahavishnu orchestra'. Transmitted in 1973, it falls into a patch; according to and listed in the KAL comedy and light entertainment guide; as being entirely wiped.
I did see also a 10 minute segment from the end of this posted on the net. Obviously I'm confused as to the accuracy of the KAL listing now and what I've seen. Can anyone confirm ?

Check out BBC 4 tonight (Sunday/Monday). THe whole half hour show is getting a repeat. Originally from the Sounds for Saturday series in 72 it was repeated as an In COncert in early 73.

Check out BBC 4 tonight (Sunday/Monday). THe whole half hour show is getting a repeat. Originally from the Sounds for Saturday series in 72 it was repeated as an In COncert in early 73. Thanks Jim - A friend recorded this, luckiliy. Funnily enough I only researched the existance of the 'Sounds for Saturday' appearence shortly before reading this posting, as I wasn't aware of it! It seems that the 'In concert' is listed in the KAL TV guide as being a different item, broadcast in 1973. That was the item I was originally quoting. The listings say it's been erased, but I found a download of the last ten minutes with a copyright date 1973 on the end on the net. It could well be that all the existing footage I've seen is from 'Sounds on Saturday' (listed as being held). Perhaps Andrew Martin could help? Would it help if I post a tracks listing from the download? At least it could be compared to the content records for both shows.

Just to update and amend. The download track and the one used on 'Jazz Brittania' show 2 is 'The noonward race'. This number comprises the last 10 minutes of the show.
According to Jazz Brittania the clock and countdown board shown says 'In concert - Mahavishnu orchestra'. My obvious conclusion is that the info given in the KAL listings is back to front.
Obviously the show that exists is the repeat of 'Sounds for saturday' as 'In concert' (not the other way round). Despite this it seems the reels around it have all been wiped I think (In concert - 73).

Indeed - the original programme was "Sounds for Saturday" 9/9/72, where the track listing was as follows: "Meeting of the Spirits", "You Know, You Know", "The Dance of Maya", "Lotus on Irish Stream" and "The Noonward Race". The existing version is the repeat as "In Concert" from 8/2/73, which has had a new clock and titles added (basically the "In Concert" title superimposed over the band) - the first track from "Sounds for Saturday" has been edited out, reducing the running time (as recorded) from 39'45" to 29'55".

So I presume the track edited out from "Sounds For Saturday" no longer exists?

Thanks Andrew - I think the listing might contain errors though. The 'In concert' version contains (first number) a series of crescendos, then a riff with arpeggios (i.e. like 'the animals - house of rising sun'), bit like 'Alone again or, Spanish influenced. I'm sure this is the first track on 'Inner mounting flame', which I think is 'Meeting of the spirits'. My theory is that either the track listing record got muddled on the BBC documents or a segment preceding 'Meeting of the spirits' (a different section) was edited out, unless they re-edited the track order? In fact I could verify that as I downloaded a 'Meeting of the spirits' (possibly different performance) off the net, and it was the same tune! I was going to say, unlike the LP version of 'noonward race' which is very laborious and overlong - if 'Meeting of the spirits' was edited out it was a pity as it was one of the best ones! Mind you I have that download, which (slim chance) might have been a missing off cut of the show, if it didn't survive. P.S. I wouldn't normally doubt your excellent word and enthusiastic approach to the subject!
