Can anyone please see what they make of this link. Do these shows appear to have been shown ever on UK Gold? Just wondered whether you think these really are complete original as tx'd broadcast (as the ad implies) or do you think (like me) that these perhaps are recorded from UK Gold or suchlike? Any opinions appreciated Cheers Heres the link to copy and paste:- cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=41569&item=6354326835&rd=1

Almost certainly uk gold repeats.
Boxing Day could be the edited version from the channel 4 repeat.

I'd be very wary about bidding on this stuff, folks. A new member, with no feedback, running multiple auctions with phrases like , "BUY NOW DONT BID JUST BUY," "EMAIL ME TO BUY THIS RIGHT NOW AT START PRICE," "CLICK AND BUY NOW WITH NOCHEX OR FASTPAY" (his capitals, I stress!) screams out scam. Needless to say, he's asking you to "BUY NOW!" but doesn't offer the safe "buy it now" option. He's also offering exactly the same stuff as a seller who got canned by ebay about this time last year. He'd also been posting on various message boards claiming to have colour episodes of "Timeslip," missing "Golden Shot"s etc. Caveat emptor.

Shaun Thanks for your comments. I obviously smelt a rat and don't believe for one minute that these are "original off air" recordings. Perhaps from what you say, these don't actually exist at all?? I notice he is running other DVD's of TOTP from the 70's and eighties as well, claiming they are all "original broadcasts" - somehow I doubt this. How on earth would he have access to some very early 70's shows as "original broadcasts" (unless they were off UK Gold of course - which means they are NOT original broadcasts!) ...Unless he had access to the BBC archive and had made copies his claims that these are original must be complete rubbish. And anyway - is this legal? ? Paul

What this guy has done is take certain episodes and re- edit them. For example the boxing day 72 show has the D.J links taken from the edition that's doing the rounds with thr TX numbers on the screen, but he has mixed the tracks from episodes of TOTP 2 so the tracks don't have the TX numbers on them. He has got away with that because every track on that particular edition has been on TOTP 2 at some point. So they are not original shows but they are o.k and well edited. I don't know where he got a copy of the Feb 1970 edition as it was never on U.K Gold as far as I know, but all the other editions have been on U.K and Channel 4. Also, these DvD's where up for £70 a while ago and that's what my mate paid for them, so he has droped his prices quite a bit.

I find this topic highly amusing.
I wrote to Lisa Opie the MD of Flextech Television which owns the UKTV network in April of last year asking her directly why UKTV do not repeat TOTP's like they did in the early 90's.
I mentioned that the material they screened was being traded on the internet as many fans of the show were desperate to see the show again in its original format. I should point out that E Bay was not mentioned and that the word traded was emphasised not the word "sold".
I heard nothing so I sent her a chase letter in October (when I was off work with a bad foot) and suprise suprise I have heard nothing again.
I think that if someone offered every single complete existing TOTP's show up for sale on the internet the Beeb or BBC Worldwide wouldn't blink an eyelid as they obviously aren't bothered with TOTP's.
I find it apalling that the MD of a large well known organisation hasn't even got the courtesy to reply or even acknowledge a letter from a viewer/licence payer.
She could have delegated the task to one of her collegues if she couldn't be bothered herself.
Whilst I think the current sellers practices on E Bay seems suspicious I compliment him/her on doing something the BBC can't do and that's to make complete shows available to the fans of the show.

In answer to Brian's response above..
Brian, thanks for that info - interesting in what you've said... but - I wonder how on earth can all the others (and there are many many editions he is selling) be "original broadcasts" I wonder (unless, of course, as previously stated they are simply UK Gold re-runs)
I have to say, if these were original broadcasts and reasonably good sound and picture quality I would be tempted myself, but something just doesn't seem right about all these editions that are supposedly "original broadcasts"

The BBC might not mind, but as for the aritsts (or whatever entity controls/oversees the copyrights to the music, for that matter), that might be a whole different kettle of fish. I seem to remember Metallica having a few issues with Napster.
(Have they been on TOTP, btw? I wouldn't know, since I'm an American.)

Well, check out this link - he is back again with an all new "pick 'n' mix" service this time!!!
Seriously, please check out the link and see what others think. Where have all these shows come from?
Surely not all of these shows were on UK Gold were they? Obviously it's feasable, that as we get into the eighties editions, that these could of course be original off air recordings, but again, I am perplexed by the amount of material and the fact that the three surviving sixties editions are there in full (as well as the Boxing Day 67 pt 2) ...
What do others think??
There is a similar add in the list before this one which looks similar advertising 70's edtions which does say in red that these have been recorded off satellite tv...
What do others think?
