I am trying to find out about one of the BBC Christmas Tapes that was aired between 1979-84.
Basically in one of these tapes they did a sendup of the Royal Family which was leaked to The Sun who did a piece about it that created a bit of a stir.
I've almost googled myself to death trying to find out anything at all about it, all we really need is a date so that we can look up the article through The Sun archive (otherwise you have to pay for a researcher at The Sun to find out for you).
If you have any ideas I would be most grateful.
Many thanks,

I am trying to find out about one of the BBC Christmas Tapes that was aired between 1979-84. None of them were aired, the vt engineers made the videos for their own amusement and played them at their xmas party. The one you're thinking of was "White Powder Christmas" (1978) in which they edited an interview with Princess Anne to make it look like she was being interviewed by David Coleman and talking about sex. The Sunday People got hold of a copy of the video and the front page of the 31 Dec 1978 issue bore the headline "ANNE TELLY SPOOF SHOCK FOR BBC". The following years Christmas tape, "Good King Memorex" (1979) included a spoof commercial for the Sunday People and all the vt engineers in the video were wearing t-shirts with the front page printed on them.

So if you are looking for bloopers from a specific series, it would be a good idea to check the xmas tape from that year?

So if you are looking for bloopers from a specific series, it would be a good idea to check the xmas tape from that year? Well only for the first few years, as they changed styles by 1984 so you got more in house jokes ans sendups ;D

How many of these are "floating around"? Ive got 4 or 5 from the late 70s / early 80s, but I believe theres about 20+ years worth doing the rounds. LOVE some of the clips in these compilations. The "Legs and Co" clip with the VT Boys being possibly my favourite.

How many of these are "floating around"? I'd like to know that too? When was the first one and when was the last? It seems that 1978 & 1979 are the most widely circulated because of the Dr Who clips they contain.

Apologies for the bump - wasn't there a sort of proto-Xmas tape produced at Lime Grove sometime in the mid-60s? A website I can't immediately remember the address of said that it started with film and only later became VT. Of course, of the film there was only ever 1 copy so those are unlikely to survive.
