Evil of the Daleks - repeat - question

Hi there,

Something I have often wondered, would the repeat showing of Evil of the Daleks after the end of Wheel in Space have been from the original VT, and, if so, does this indicate that VT was generally kept for a year or more?

The repeat was indeed transmitted from the original master videotapes.

The tapes for Episodes 1-6, repeated in June and July 1968, were wiped in August with the final episode being wiped in September the following year.

Not really. It had had its one repeat showing (the only one bar An Unearthly Child that had, despite all the videotapes being retained for that specific purpose) and Nation had by that time pulled his permission for the BBC to be able to exploit the Daleks further, so from that perspective, it was a fairly natural one to get rid of.

And the prints would have been satisfactory for sales so an excuse to 'ditch' em as well

The biggest loss is the loss of the prints

It's possible that a off-air recording of the 1968 repeat was recorded using a Sony CV-2000 or the Shibaden, but who knows? Off air copies of surviving episodes as well as off-air copies of missing episodes that were overwritten have been found. Even many Pertwee episodes have a off-air NTSC color copy, including those still in their original PAL. But until someone comes forward with a off-air copy if a missing episode, we'll never know for sure.
