.. a TV thriller movie that was shown on ITV (London / South East Region) in 1981? I know it's a long shot, but my diary entry for May 17 reads thus: "It's 11:30pm and there's a thriller on ITV; if it's no good I'll write in here again in a few minutes, but if it's good I'll have to do a catch up later." I then added "I did watch it.. it was pretty average but the theme music was excellent. Wonder if it's available anywhere? It sounded like a cross between Amilcar's 'Wargasm In Pornotopia' (from Derek Jarman's 'Jubilee' movie) and the last section of Scars' 'Obsession'.." Is there any site where I could peruse the schedules for that date or is the only other way to try and find a copy of TV Times for that date? Any help appreciated, thanks.

The Television and Radio Database web site is a good place to look for TV listings, although you might have to sign up to see more than just the very basic information. The thriller you are looking for was called 'Mirror of Deception'.

It's available to watch h online under its original title Good Salary, Prospects, Free Coffin, but the 1980s reruns tended to be the versions prepared for American distribution with new titles (hence 'Mirror of Deception') and insanely long opening and closing credit sequences to pad out the running time to feature-length. I imagine this is where the tune you remember was used.

The American titles are extras on the UK Thriller DVD Boxset. On each episode of Thriller, the American titles play right after the original UK version episode finishes. Also if you "reverse" a episode when you first start playing it you will be shown the original ATV countdown clock and studio audio chatter from the same episode. A really good DVD Boxset if you enjoy Thriller.
