Let's hope it will just be the episode - no carefully selected so-called celebrities who probably haven't seen a full episode but are picked to give their two penn'eth due to their skin colour and/or their sexual preferences.

There was a programme on, iirc, ITV a few months ago which was probably exactly that.

Ah, so this is the same episode that ITV decided to ruin earlier this year? Great news and hopefully the BBC at least will refrain from dissecting the show with witless commentary from a bunch of z-listers all unconvincingly posing as M&W super fans… Indeed, I lasted less than five minutes with ITV’s travesty and I consider even that a feat of masochistic fortitude. Still, if I see the likes of Jo Brand or Nish Kumar anywhere near the Beeb’s version I’ll be switching off with even greater alacrity… All that aside though at least there’s something worth watching on terrestrial television this Christmas. Quite the novelty these days.

It sounds like some people need to join the 21st century, don't worry you're almost 22 years late.

Apologies Richard, I for one see now that expecting a sensationally rediscovered episode of Morecambe & Wise to be transmitted intact rather than interspersed with worthless insightful commentary by the cast of Emmerdale… was both presumptuous and, far worse, old fashioned of me…. Consider this wrist duly slapped in humble penance and the creatively-bountiful 21st century embraced with renewed vigour.

You shouldn’t tempt fate, just look at History a 100 years ago and remember what followed The Weimar Republic in Germany. My point is that what you probably see as early 21st century, relatively socially enlightened attitudes are no more likely to last than late 20th century attitudes however much folks would want it to. “The only constant is change”.

A chance to quote Angus Wilson, or rather Lewis Carroll...I'd suggest that those "20th century attitudes" are to a large extent Anglo-Saxon attitudes, not shared by much of a disparate wider world. On a slightly more mundane note, I still don't got a TV licence, so won't be watching this programme. Drat it.

Yes there's a lot more to the world than many people tend to realise. While pop culture tends to travel well these days I'm always having to explain things to my Kenyan / Ugandan wife.
