Hi folks,
I have a 16mm Bell and Howell film projector that I need to get shot of, and wondered whether anyone here would like to take it off my hands.
At the moment it needs a little attention to get it working, so I don't want anything for it, and there aren't any films to go with it, but if it's any use to anyone, and you can come and collect fom Oxford or Swindon, it's yours.
I also have a couple of Philips N1700 VCRs and a Grundig 2022 which also need to get the hell out of my garage.
Neither of these machines work, and will probably only be good for spares, although the V2000 could probably be coaxed back to life, but if anyone wants them, give me a shout.
Again, I don't want anything for these, and you'll have to come and pick them up from Swindon or Oxford (although I'll drop them off if you're not too far away), but if anyone would like them, please let me know before I head to the tip after the weekend!
Oh, and no, there aren't any tapes, unless you count the one that is jammed inside one of the players!

hi,plesase could you tell m what the projector needs to make it work ok as very intrested thanks Sorry, Nigel, I haven't a clue - it lights up and tries to go round, so it may be as little as a drop of WD40, but I know nothing about these machines, so don't hold me to that! I've never owned any films, so haven't had the incentive to get it checked out! But it's free! Go on, you know you want it!

Could also be a cracked worm gear. This was a common problem with B&H projectors...

Could also be a cracked worm gear. This was a common problem with B&H projectors... plastic or metal worm? The ones that crack are plastic. I think the ealier metal worm gears are o.k.... I know that in the us, the 1500 and 2500 series modeles defintely had the bad worm gears, can't remember whether the 500 series did or not... Don't know about the UK models... I don't use B&H projectors -- I prefer Eiki (Elf in the UK), Elmo or Kodak... The one exception is that the B&H 3500 series (US) were actually Eiki projectors with a B&H label...

Sorry if this is slightly off-topic. Does anyone know if it is possible to put 16mm separate magnetic tracks through a normal 16mm projector? I need to get the sound off some soundtracks from a film I made 20 years ago.

I need to get the sound off some soundtracks from a film I made 20 years ago. ------- ------------- You can play it through a standard projector but you will not hear much if your talking about fully coated magnetic film? What you need is a 'dual band' projector. This had a normal film side plus a syncronised side for loading sep mag 16mm film. So that you could watch a film in sync with seperate mag sound tracks. These were used in proffesional circles so are now very rare indeed, but a London based AV hire company might still have a token one? (Elf (or Eiki) were known manufacturers of ) The alternative is to find someone with a Steenbeck editing table. However If its just an ordinary film with a mag stripe sound track, then this is no problem at all, if you can a projector that plays 'mag' 'sounds. The majority of post 1950s ones do.

The majority of 16mm projectors DO NOT play mag tracks. Most projectors are optical only, as mag striping was very uncommon in 16mm. It was done on news footage, and also on airline prints to have multiple languages. And if you are using full coat, you can't play it at all on a normal projector. The soundtrack is not recorded in the right spot on the film for the mag sound head to pick it up. You will need a dual-arm projector to play it.
