"Holmes aficionados have thrilled to the news that clips of the missing episodes have been found in the public television archives of Holland and Flanders. Just like Doctor Who, Cushing’s TV series had been transferred to film for overseas syndication."
Though the headline says "episodes", I think these clips have had a mention here recently?

I’ve got vague recollections of what I think might have been a colour clip of the Cushing Sherlock Holmes, with Holmes getting quite animated with Mrs Hudson about dust on a mantle piece, being shown on Nationwide in the 70’s for some reason.
I could easily be miss-remembering a clip of a different film or series but it seems to fit.
If I’m right then it’s probably from one of the known 6 surviving episodes, but I thought I’d mention it.

These finds were announced many months ago. They are excerpts only, 1-2 minutes each.
The article says clips, but really the word should have been bold and underlined to prevent disappointment.
No complete episodes. Just fragments.

Preview clips. So at least they're slightly more useful because you have a minute or so with a coherent scene. A censor cut is sometimes just half a sentence that was too rude for Australia - that would not have been much help.

They didn’t just send an episode or two?
Presumably these were edited together on one reel?
If so that’s a fair amount of work.

They showed both series, as did many other countries, and they all returned their copies afterwards. (I've even asked Romania, after someone told me they showed BBC stuff there for a while during the 1960s.) But their weekly previews on the other hand survive. Clips from a famous(ly lost) Dutch show were recovered there as well. It's always surprised me that there aren't more off-air audio recordings; or that none of the film cans were pilfered from the trash. The stories are relatively well-known, after all.

That's from the film The Private Life of Sherlock Holmes. Or, to be exact, that film contained a scene where Holmes and Mrs Hudson argue about dust. It's possible there were similar discussions in multiple films.

Thanks for the clarification, that puts it to bed!
