I apologize if this has already been mentioned on this forum. But I came across the following RSG episode on the BFI website. www.bfi.org.uk/films-tv-people/4ce2b7d348052Attachment DeletedIn case the jpg doesn’t appear, it lists presenters Keith Fordyce, Cathy McGowan and Michael Aldred. And musical performers The Swinging Blue Jeans, Helen Shapiro, Manfred Mann, and Johnny Kidd and The Pirates. It could possibly be from January 10, 1964. Does this mean that the BFI has a copy of episode? Or does the BFI sometimes list shows that they don't have in their archives?

Imagine if this episode did exist Johnny Kidd and The Pirates it would be worth seeing it for this alone I very much doubt it existing probably an inaccuracy of some kind but would be brilliant if it did.

You have to deep dig in their old search site - collections-search.bfi.org.uk/web/results if it shows a little film reel icon it usually means they have a copy. However, I think member Peter Checksfield would have been jumping up and down for weeks LOL, and so you certainly have known about it if a Johnny Kid and the Pirates performance was in there. .

Thanks Peter, I appreciate you providing the BFI archive link. I checked it and they don't have a copy of that episode. Best, Tom

This may be from a missing edition? not sure which, but it looks nicely looked after by the Americans. Dick and Dee Dee- Thou Shall not Steal and they appear to be on the moving stage of RSG.
Glenda Collins did an early sounding heavy metal cover of it (JM had the dials set to 11 LOL)
but this is the definitive version.

It's from 11th December 1964, an edition where most songs circulate (I believe this song was rebroadcast by Channel 4 in the early 90s too): missingepisodes.proboards.com/thread/13115/ready-steady-documentary-best?page=2 11th December 1964
• Georgie Fame & Blue Flames – Monkeying Around
• Georgie Fame & Blue Flames – Yeh Yeh
• The McKinleys – Sweet and Tender Romance
• Tony Jackson and The Vibrations – You Beat Me To The Punch
• Rufus Thomas – Walking the Dog
• Rufus Thomas – Jump Back
• Dick and Dee Dee – Thou Shalt Not Steal
• Gerry and the Pacemakers – Ferry Cross The Mersey
• Gerry and the Pacemakers – Why Oh Why
• Gerry and the Pacemakers – My Babe

I think the Tony Jackson was not repeated on the channel 4 mashups. They were only interested. In the hits.

They were probably trying to fit DC5 clips in everywhere LOL Great versions, super Mersey Beat style of Beat Me to The Punch but this site appears to have blocked The Mckinelys clip, but it will play outside on You Tube. I think Peter or Kev have already flagged this up?...but anyway another excellent Motown cover by The Fourmost

Listening to this, I think Tony Jackson must have realised by then what a big mistake it was to get himself kicked out of the Searchers. His first disc "Bye Bye Baby" was fairly mediocre, and this one.... well, frankly, rubbish! I remember when all this was going on, but I never actually got to hear this record when it was released. I certainly didn't miss anything!

I really like 'You Beat Me To The Punch', but I think the real problem is that it sounds a little too like 'Needles and Pins'.
