Does anyone know if there are plans to release the updated special edition Power of the Daleks animation in North America? It seems like over the past couple of years and past couple of releases that they don’t even want us to know that the animations have been made and are coming out. Every bit of publicity is only about the initial release in the UK.

I don't remember anyone mentioning about a North American release. I hope it comes out to my side of the pond. I do know it will be black & white. I order it for my multi-regional dvd player.

I haven't seen or heard anything about a NA release, either. Like Stephen, I normally order the PAL releases and play them on a multi-region dvd player. Often a PAL release will actually be cheaper than an NTSC release, even after considering postage to the US. Another advantage of a multi-region player is that I can watch lots of things that never even get considered for a US release.

Where did the new (actual) Lesterson sequences come from?
Only a few seconds but they were lovely to see.

I wasn't expecting non-dalek stuff; wonderful find, even if just a few seconds.

Yup, new photos and film sequences come from the Derek Dodd estate For more info, watch & listen to Doctor Who The Power of the Daleks Special Edition - Charles Norton interview -> www.youtube.com/watch?v=1olgsZ7Cuc4

It's a lovely package, this.
The animation is much improved, transforming the previously ropey episode one especially. I thoroughly enjoyed it. And I'm told the recon is brilliant.
The photo gallery is glorious, there's a new script to screen feature with lots of lovely footage of Z Cars in rehearsal (as a means of showing what Doctor Who rehearsals might have looked like) and there's a really fun feature of Mike Tucker recreating the Dalek production line. Tons of other little bits on there too.
The only negative is the much talked about decision to remove the 16 seconds with the Doctor playing the recorder in the TARDIS, post-renewal. But Charles provides his rationale for doing so, and so while I disagree (it could have been done differently and fun bits really aren't disposable), it really doesn't take much of the shine off the apple.
So if anyone is wondering whether to buy... I'd say go for it.

Must admit I begrudgingly (I loathe double-dipping) had this on preorder, then cancelled but am now thinking of buying once again!
Before I do though can anyone who has the Special Edition confirm if those superb colour photographs from the Dodd estate are included here too? Can’t think why they wouldn’t be but you never know...

The Photo Gallery is glorious!
From the booklet - "An expanded collection of 85 BBC photographs taken in the studio during the original 1966 production of 'The Power of the Daleks'. Included in this collection are a number of never before released full-colour photographs that have only recently been rediscovered."
I haven't cross checked with the auction photos, so I cannot say that ALL are there, but a lot of new ones are featured.

I haven't cross checked with the auction photos, so I cannot say that ALL are there, but a lot of new ones are featured. Well that’s good enough for me! As I say I couldn’t reason why Dodds’ colour photos wouldn’t be included in this package but with The Highlanders getting pulled from the release seemingly late on it was worth making sure! Regardless, though my initial appraisal of this release was quite cynical - if not outright scathing, I must concede that the Special Edition has proven to be far from the lazy cash-in boasting only mildly improved animation I had originally perceived. Good stuff. ...and I’m one of those fans who always watch these animations in B/W anyway so I can’t even complain about the lack of a colour version in this upgraded release (as many have been doing)!

The new looped clips of Lesterson looking through the window onto the Dalek's control room look as if they were recorded on 35mm film.Is That correct?
