The animated releases are a very poor indicator of what may or may not be out there. Even if they know of someone claiming to have Power 3, if negotiations were going nowhere they're not going to hold back on animating a highly requested story over that. They're going to animate the most popular stuff first that'll sell by the truckload (as Jaspal said: business decision) and not jump straight in with a lesser requested one like Celestual Toymaker. In some cases i'd say it's indicative of likelihood of recovery (Fury for example, i'd say this is one of the biggest lost causes of them all) but it's not exhaustive. What I would say can be deduced from the animations is that the BBC are not hopeful for the full recovery of a story.

And following on from Philip Morris's revelations that 6 missing episodes exist in private hands, are the BBC going to go out of their way to determine which ones they are to influence their subsequent animation releases? Probably not.And I'm grateful that these wonderful animations are being released and excited as to what will happen if episodes that have been animated are found!

The trouble is we don't know where and when the next episode/s will turn up. Unfortunately there is generally long gaps/years between recoveries. So it makes sense to animate what's missing now than waiting for anything that may turn up but likely won't. Plus at least they can bring out 'complete' season box sets on blu-ray, with obviously animation for the missing episodes. I certainly think that the bulk of episodes in private collections would have come from the many episodes returned from Australia in 1975. Galaxy 4 part 3 and The Underwater Menace part 2 are certainly from this batch. Maybe there's some hope that there could be a handful of season 3 or season 4 episodes out there?

Totally agree - I am happy they are animating to "complete" series so we can get those Blu-Ray releases. Maybe if we are fortunate for future discoveries, they release the story individually, and with a bonus disk that can replace ones that are in any released sets? But yes, I've never thought about the animations meaning no chance of future discoveries for that particular story. Just Auntie Beeb keen to get some money rolling in!

Paul Vanezis spoke very well today (last night for you Poms) on the Fantom Zoom chat with Peter Crocker. Saved the best for last with a comment about episodes being with collectors. I assume it is very much a wait and see proposition from here.

I’d also be interested 👍
I presume that quantities of salt were liberally applied? Until someone like PV has actually confirmed that a reel of 16mm is a ME it could all just be a hoax.

There isn't a video. It was a live Zoom event. There’s a “Record” function on Zoom. And screenshots from the event show it was recorded

Well if someone can find the audio for it we can have a nice tele-snap reconstruction of the event with the screenshots.
